In 2012, Filmmaker Joss Whedon commented about Marvel’s superhero sharing the franchise’s biggest challenge with the character. Joss Whedon had given two $1 billion box office hits, i.e., The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron to the franchise but now they had moved on with the director. After MCU has given life to Marvel Comics Avengers, including Monica Rambeau, Black Knight, She-Hulk, and even obscure characters like U.S. Agent, it is now set on Wonder Man. This series will be revolving around him and will be directed by Shang-Chi‘s Destin Daniel Cretton.

The decision to make a series on the character shows what Joss Whedon thinks is completely different from the MCU. After The Avengers was done, Joss Whedon was asked about which members of the Avengers he would like to have in the future for the MCU. To that, he claimed that he would want to use “pretty much everyone but Wonder Man”. He shared that he wasn’t able to figure out what he will do, and he “never did figure out what he was for.” This theory of his was different from the Marvel’s as they would find a path for him. Now, 10 years later, the character left out by the director, is about to become the protagonist of his Disney+ series.

Wonder Man will now be entering the MCU as Cretton is producing the upcoming MCU show, which will be more comedic in tone since Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Andrew Guest is the head writer.
In the comics, the real name of the character is Simon Williams, who is the son of a wealthy industrialist whose company faces difficult times while being compared to Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Due to that, Williams accepts an offer from villain Baron Zemo which ultimately gives him ionic superpowers including super strength and durability. After fighting the Avengers several times, he ultimately joined their ranks.
This won’t be an easy task for Marvel to portray the hero with other Avengers but the franchise has always been striving for the best.
