SUMMARY
  • Dafne Keen wants to play X-23 in the MCU as long as she can.
  • Many fans believe Keen's X-23 is the perfect character to carry on Wolverine's legacy.
  • Jackman's Wolverine might be a bridge for the new X-Men in MCU or maybe 'Secret Wars' will be his last appearance.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going places quite literally now. The multiversal expansion has brought back Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, although fans thought Logan was the end of his X-Men run. The interesting part is that he still exists in Deadpool’s universe, which is essentially part of the MCU now.

However, Deadpool & Wolverine also brought Dafne Keen’s Laura, aka X-23, who was first introduced as Logan’s genetic daughter in Logan. And just like Wolverine, she is also living in Deadpool’s universe along with him.

Since both new Logan and Laura are a part of MCU’s multiverse now, it is just a matter of time before they will appear again in a multiversal crossover, potentially in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars.

After getting saved from the void by the TVA, Laura’s future is now open in the MCU. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Keen talked about her Deadpool & Wolverine cameo and her thoughts on returning to her role. She said, “I would 100% do this for the rest of my life.”

In an earlier interview with ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast, Keen mentioned how her character has not been explored much and she would love to tell her story.

I would pay them to come back. Playing Laura has been the biggest honor of my life. To me, we’ve only scratched the surface with her since she’s such a complex character. She’s so cool, just from a fan’s standpoint.

However, there has been ongoing speculation and fan theories that say Marvel might consider bringing a new actor to replace Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine. Some doubt it might be Henry Cavill, as his cameo in Deadpool 3 was well-appreciated. However, the majority of fans believe Keen’s character will be perfect to carry on the legacy of Wolverine.

X-23 is the only character who is directly related to the original Logan, whom fans love and relate to whenever Wolverine is mentioned. Keen also mentioned the explored story of Laura in her Phase Zero interview, how she got abducted by TVA after spending some years with new mutants, and how Logan’s variant still reminds her of her dad.

All these unexplored moments seem interesting from a fan’s standpoint. Besides, Dafne Keen has been loved as the ruthless X-23 since her first appearance. So, it is quite unlikely that Marvel would think of erasing her character from existence anytime soon.

Possible Future of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in MCU

The proper introduction of X-Men is still pending in the MCU. However, after Deadpool & Wolverine, it has definitely come one step closer. And currently, the only original X-Man existing in the MCU is Jackman’s variant of Wolverine.

Marvel has not announced any X-Men project until the end of the Multiverse saga. However, it is speculated that a new team of X-Men might be introduced in the future. In that case, Jackman might work as the thread that will connect the old X-Men with the new one.

It will also be a great fan service to see Jackman’s Wolverine teaming up with new Professor X and other X-Men and leading them and passing the torch in a way.

Deadpool & Wolverine is running in theaters.
