“Father’s Day has become very tricky”: Dwayne Johnson Regrets His Relationship With His Father Before He Died
Despite being one of the most well-known actors in the business, Dwayne Johnson is also admired for being one of the few honest stars who has never been afraid to open up to his audience about his feelings.
Rocky Johnson, a well-known Canadian professional wrestler at the time, was the father of Johnson, the father of three daughters. He was the first Black heavyweight champion of Georgia and a TV champion for the NWA. Rocky Johnson retired in 1991, but he taught Dwayne Johnson how to wrestle, making him one of the greatest wrestlers WWE has ever had. Unfortunately, the two of them did not get along well.
Dwayne Johnson opens up about the complicated relationship with his late father
Former professional wrestler and now actor Dwayne Johnson, back in June of this year around Father’s Day, took to his social media to talk about the complicated relationship he had shared with his late father Rocky, before he passed away in January 2020.
He explained that in his initial post for Father’s day, he had missed out on something which he wanted to share, adding that he sympathizes with fathers who just like him don’t have the privilege of wishing their fathers happy Father’s Day. He noted that the special day can be tricky for people to deal with, especially ones who have had a complicated relationship with their fathers.
He said in the video shared on his Instagram,
“Especially if there’s a lot of guys out there, like me, who had a tough love, complicated relationship with our fathers. I had that with my old man. I know a lot of you guys did as well. So it’s tricky, because they’re not here now and we wish they were.”
Dwayne Johnson continued to say,
“I wish he was here one more time so I can say, ‘Hey, I love you, happy Father’s Day, thank you for raising me with the capacity you did have, even though at times it was complicated and at times we fought.’ But we don’t have that privilege, so it’s tricky.”
In the caption of the video he shared, Johnson wrote,
“Every Father’s Day has become very tricky because there’s a lot of pain. But every Father’s Day is also one of my greatest days because I have three amazing daughters who tell me, I love you and Happy Fathers Day.”
Dwayne Johnson urges everyone to mend their complicated relationship with their father
The Black Adam actor, whose father passed away at the age of 75 in January 2020 urged his fans and everyone who was watching the video to reconcile and mend things with their father to bring it back together before he went on to reveal that before his father passed away they were not in speaking terms.
Johnson explained in the video,
“I got in the biggest fight with my old man during Christmas 2019, the biggest fight I ever got in with him in my life, as well as with me. We fought. We weren’t talking, or I wasn’t talking, and three weeks later he dropped dead, and that was it. I never had a chance to say goodbye and I never even had a chance to reconcile what we were going through. I have got goosebumps right now.”
The actor said that people should do their best to reconcile and mend things with people they love, because the alternative is something could happen and all of a sudden, they are writing an eulogy for their father’s funeral like he did.
“If you have an opportunity, if your old man is around and you do have a shot at reconciling it. All our dads [who are] up in heaven are looking down on us now. Hopefully, they’re proud of what they see.”
Dwayne Johnson notes being a father is his favorite job
Back in 2022, the father of three daughters took to his social media to share that being the father of daughters Tiana Gia, Jasmine, and Simone is his favorite thing in the world, as he wrote in the post ,
“Taking care of your families with the work you put in with your own two hands, having pride in your name and being that shining example to your kids that having a relentless work ethic and being a kind, good-hearted, decent human really matters in this life.”
He wrote a message for the ones whose fathers had passed away by saying that whether they had an amazing relationship or complicated, let’s raise our glass and try to remember good stuff.
