On June 4, 2022, the pair shared a joint statement in which they declared their separation after 12 years of being together. The ex-couple said, “We regret to confirm that we are separating,” and requested privacy for the sake of their children as they are their “maximum priority.” This confirmation from the two came after Spanish news outlet El Periodico revealed that Gerard Pique was living apart from the singer and their kids.

The footballer threatens to sue media outlets
Speculations about the footballer’s personal life have appeared in the Spanish media since he announced his breakup with Shakira in June. The Barcelona player is apparently fed up with all the attention and is now threatening to respond to those reports by taking possible legal action.

However, in recent weeks there have been interferences that go beyond the limits of legality, for which our client has been forced to request precautionary measures of removal and take legal action against those who alter their family life and violate the rights of their children.”
A statement from the player was recently released which stated that the player has always respected the media and its role. But stressed the fact that there has been a ‘violation of rights’ against his children and family recently which will not be tolerated at any cost. He has threatened to sue the media outlets for the same if this continues.
