Forever the Free Spirit, Jim Carrey Left $180M Movie Career Behind as He Hated “Corporations Taking Over” Hollywood: “I just didn’t want to be in the business anymore”
After giving several hit movies starting in the 90s, Jim Carrey suddenly left Tinseltown. He had quite a long period of break. Even though his success came with millions of dollars for just one film, the actor gradually seemed to have lost interest in the profession in general. He even opened up, back in 2018, about the reason he was not a part of the industry as greatly anymore. And it had a lot to do with the “business” aspect of the film industry. Nevertheless, he did make a comeback again following the interview. Unfortunately, his works do not seem to be as appealing as they used to. And after Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Dumb and Dumber actor might or might not return to the screen again.
Jim Carrey Revealed the Reason Behind Losing His Passion For Acting
Since the release of Ace Ventura in 1994, Jim Carrey has been regarded as one of the biggest actors in Hollywood. There is no lack of the hits that he delivered while his career was at its peak. But for some time Carrey stopped being the big star. It felt as if he had lost his interest in giving blockbusters like before. 2018, the actor came out with the series Kidding. That year, he finally addressed it in an interview. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Carrey said,
“I just didn’t want to be in the business anymore”
According to him, the way corporations had taken over the film industry made him lose interest in his profession as an actor altogether. Furthermore, he also opened up about what caught his interest instead. It seemed that his withdrawal from acting gave him enough space to explore other creative outlets. And he soon discovered that it had been “painting”.
In the meantime, he did come out with several other film projects and there are rumors that more are on the way. But nine of the movie that got released in recent years did not do as great as his early blockbusters.
More on Jim Carrey’s Acting Career
For those who may have missed it, Jim Carrey returned with a movie in 2016 that did not fare well at the box office. The actor’s highest-paying role has been How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Carrey was paid a whopping 20 million dollars for the role. Since then, no other role has been able to top that amount. After the 2016’s Bad Batch, he came out in the series Kidding, and then Dumb and Dumber Two. The actor’s Sonic the Hedgehog (1 and 2) project was able to do well at the box office and attract a good amount of interest from the audience.
