Hafthor Bjornsson is a very big name in the Powerlifting world. The Icelandic giant has also starred in the popular TV series Game Of Thrones. He started off with Powerlifting and has won the World’s Strongest Man title several times. He took a break for a couple of years from Powerlifting and entered the world of Boxing. Recently, the big guy returned to the Powerlifting world. He got popular for playing the role of The Mountain in Game Of Thrones. Bjornsson underwent a terrible accident while training in his gym.
Reportedly, Bjornsson resumed the insane diet and training regimes he used during his time competing in Strongman and started putting up big numbers.
How Did Hafthor Bjornsson Get Injured?
The 34-year-old’s left pec ripped off the bone as he attempted to bench press a personal best of 556 lbs during a competition at his Thor Power Gym. He revealed that he had set eyes on breaking the All-Time Raw W/Wraps World Record Total by year’s end. But, a torn left pectoral seems to have put a pause on his plans. The muscle tore as the man mountain lowered the weight to his chest and made a sickening noise. Bjornsson immediately screamed in agony before his spotters jumped in and lifted the bar off his chest.
His injury is already the talk of the powerlifting world. The lifter was very ambitious about his return. He mentioned even on his Youtube video, “I competed for two years off. I worked my a** off, but I didn’t feel the same passion for boxing, as I had for Strongman. When I did Strongman training it never felt like a job. It felt like me just hanging out with the boys or having fun, whereas in boxing every single day felt like work.”
What Were The Reactions To This Incident?
Bjornsson has yet to break his silence on the sickening injury, although he shared an Instagram story featuring an image of his left arm in a sling. One powerlifting fan said, “He was putting up some solid number it’s such a shame. Wishing him a quick and full recovery.”. Another said, “Scott Mendelson had a nasty pec tear and still came back to set records. Let’s hope Thor recovers just as well.”. Among other comments, “Poor guy. I remember hearing that noise when I tore my pec. Think I’ll not bench for a while.”, “Oh, you heard that!”, “Zero chance of breaking the ATWR this year now.” were also added.
