George Clooney is one of the best actors in Hollywood to date, if not the best. Having started his career as an extra in the TV miniseries Centennial, he has now been in show business for more than decades. He has shown his proficiency as an actor numerous times; and has won two Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and even a British Academy Film Award.

From the superhero genre to dramas, George Clooney has tried his hand at movies of nearly all genres that one can probably think of. However, his portrayal of Batman might not have left the best impression when it comes to all the Batman adaptations that have been done so far. As it turns out, Clooney is aware of this fact and does not plan to return as the superhero. Ever again.

George Clooney Does Not Plan to Return As Batman

There have been several film adaptations of Batman. 23 years after the release of Adam West’s Batman: The Movie, Michael Keaton took over the role for the movie Batman and its sequel Batman: Returns. Those movies were followed by Val Kilmer’s Batman Forever and George Clooney‘s Batman & Robin.

Back in 1997, Clooney’s Batman failed to capture the hearts of many fans which led to a poor box office performance. Despite this, he made a comeback for a cameo in Ezra Miller’s The Flash, released earlier this year. Unfortunately, The Flash turned out to be one of the least successful DCEU movies of all time.

During the L.A. premiere of his upcoming movie The Boys in the Boat, when asked if he would like to reprise his role as Batman, Clooney’s answer was absolutely clear. He told Entertainment Tonight: “I don’t think there are enough dr*gs in the world for me to go back again.”

Speaking of his cameo in The Flash, the Ticket to Paradise actor jokingly said that fans wanted to see a reprise of his role. He said:

“I thought there was such a clamor for me to come back as Batman as you know. I actually said, ‘Where are my rubber nipples?’ And they were like, ‘Can we do it without the rubber nipples?’ I was like, ‘Well, it’s not really my Batman, is it?'”

The rubber nipples of Clooney’s Batsuit are one of the reasons why his Batman has been quite infamous. Perhaps, not returning as the superhero is for the best for the actor.

Starring in big tentpoles like the Batman movies is a great achievement. Not to mention that these projects are great for the actors’ bank balance. Even so, there is always a chance of their failure too. This was something that Clooney understood after Batman & Robin performed poorly.

So much so that the Ocean’s Eleven star once told Deadline that he keeps a photo of himself as Batman in his office “as a cautionary reminder of what can happen when you make movies solely for commercial reasons.” Whether this trick has been working or not is for him to tell. However, what we can tell is that he has regretted every occasion on which he put on that Batsuit with rubber nipples.
