The X-Men film series is the tenth-highest-grossing film series of all time. Since 20th Century Fox obtained the rights in 1994 and released the first movie in 2000, the series has seen thirteen films being released under Fox. Over the years, with the inclusion of such a wide array of gifted mutants from the comic book, the X-Men series managed to impress both comic book lovers and movie fanatics.

Back in 2019, Marvel Studios acquired the rights of X-Men from 20th Century Fox in addition to Fantastic Four and Deadpool. This happened after Disney acquired Fox with the intention of integrating the X-Men with the MCU. It was announced back in September 2023 that a new X-Men will be developed to reboot the franchise according to the MCU. Now, there has been an update, and fans, as always have a range of opinions. Let’s find out.

Marvel’s X-Men Reboot to focus on women characters only

After the writer’s strike came to its conclusion, it was reported that Marvel Studios’ executive will now set up meetings and hear pitches from the writers for their upcoming project which is the X-Men reboot. Deadline shared that the executives are in no rush to nail down someone for the reboot and are going to decide sometime in 2024.

However, in a recent update from an industry insider Daniel Richtman, it was revealed that Marvel Studios are once again sidelining the male characters to focus solely on female ones. It has been reported that Marvel President, Kevin Feige wants to reboot the franchise and make it as different as he can, from the one Fox created.

Not much has been revealed about the story except the fact that he is not looking to reintroduce Magneto and is rumored to be planning to start with Mr. Sinister as the villain. There hasn’t been much talk about the project as well except from Loki’s writer Eric Martin. He claimed during an interview with Games Radar, that he would love to collaborate with Marvel. He said,

X-Men
Magneto will not likely be introduced in X-Men reboot

“I think everybody’s probably chasing after X-Men because I think that’s where the richest characters are. But I mean who know? That’s a decision for someone who’s not me.”

He continued to claim that he would love to collaborate once again with Marvel, adding that they changed his life. He added that their trust in him to write Loki Season 2 was immense and he hopes that he managed to earn that trust. Martin said that for him everything comes down to the characters, and how they are.

Fans say Marvel studios do not know how to make a good female-centric movie

Since it was reported that the X-Men reboot is going to focus on female characters rather than males, fans have taken to their social media accounts to express their views. A fan noted,

“A female centric X-Men reboot will fail so epically. Not because of the characters. Rogue and Storm have fantastic stories that could crush. Disney/Marvel doesn’t know how to make good movies with female centric characters. And they have no more goodwill with the public.”

The Marvels

One user tweeted, “Why is Marvel hell bent on shoving women characters down a fan base that is over 90% men? Genuinely they are going to ruin their dynasty,” a second one tweeted, “Lame. If we aren’t getting Cyclops and Wolverine, it’s not X-Men.”

Users also said that this move by Marvel studios comes as being ‘woke’ while another tweeted,

“They are going to get the same reaction that The Marvels got. Some men complaining and not watching it & some women complaining about the men complaining yet still not watching it. Making it another box office disaster for Marvel. But at least they’re not like DC and keep rebooting.”

Majorly the fans believe that Marvel Studios are trying to turn X-Men into The Marvels 2 which is like forcing the female characters distastefully.
