George Clooney’s Exit Left $723M Movie Co-Star Sandra Bullock With Crippling Depression: “Have never been hit with a depression like that”
American actress Sandra Bullock got her breakthrough role in the movie Gravity. The movie ended up taking home seven Oscars. In a previous interview, the actor talked about the toil of getting a perfect scene in the movie. But perseverance pays off, as Bullock received critical acclaim for her performance in the film.
The actress revealed that working on the sets of Gravity was indeed a challenging task, but since she was accompanied by her co-star George Clooney, things were quite bearable for her. But as Clooney finished his scenes in the film and left, Sandra Bullock fell into a depression.
Why was Sandra Bullock depressed when George Clooney finished filming Gravity?
Sandra Bullock is one of the highest-paid actresses in the world. Not just this, the actress has also been a part of many Oscar-winning films, including the space drama Gravity. In an earlier interview with Variety, the actress shared that working on Gravity was one of the most challenging roles she has ever been a part of. Gravity is a science fiction thriller film that stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as the lead protagonists.
During the interview, the 58-year-old actress revealed that while filming the movie, she went through depression. The actress stated that her co-star George Clooney’s presence made things much better for her on the sets, but the day he finished his course of acting in the film and left, it made her depressed. The actress said,
“When George came, it was like this energy for us, and you were so appreciative of him being there. And then, when he left, I had never been hit with a depression like that. We had so much fun for three weeks, but then my friend left. I was amazed at how I was affected by him going. I had a hard time saying goodbye. I didn’t wanna look at him, I was just gonna give him a pat and I walked away – and I was mad.”
Indeed, we all need someone to have our back, and for Bullock, it was Clooney on the sets of Gravity.

Why did Sandra Bullock fall into depression?
Starring in the Oscar-winning film Gravity was no less than a challenge for Sandra Bullock. As the film is based on an outer space drama, Bullock had to film in isolation, which caused the actress to go through depression. The Speed actress revealed that committing to such a role was not an easy task as it took a lot of effort to achieve perfection in the role. It wasn’t just about the physical efforts; while filming the movie, Bullock had to put in much of her mental effort as well.
While shooting for Gravity, Bullock was locked in an isolation tank for 10 hours at a time. The scene took a serious toll on her mental health. The actress said,
“I was depressed, I was angry, I would get so sad because it was a black room, no human contact, they took away sound… ‘ What they did was, Alfonso could see because he had cameras always on my face, he would be like, ‘She’s cracking, she’s cracking, go get the kid. They’d created this whole wonderland just outside for Louis (to keep him occupied during filming), so they brought him in.”
Louis is Sandra Bullock’s son, whom the director of the film, Alfonso Cuaron, called on sets to cheer her up whenever he felt she needed a boost.
