“God bless America”: House of the Dragon Fans Are Not Ready For 1 Tragic Twist in Season 2
Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones (GOT) aired for eight seasons and continues to be one of the most favorite fantasy series of all time. Much to the fans’ delight, the prequel series House of the Dragon (HOD) premiered three years after the show ended.
Ahead of the debut of the second season of the show, the cast attended the premiere at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. During the premiere, Tom Glynn-Carney, the actor who plays King Aegon II Targaryen, opened up about the development of his character and a twist that will leave fans shocked.
Tom Glynn-Carney Teased a Tragic Twist in the New Season of House of the Dragon
The American audience witnessed English actor Tom Glynn-Carney’s first screen presence when he starred in Christopher Nolan’s war drama Dunkirk. He went on to star in the 2019 epic historical drama film The King and rose to global acclaim with his portrayal of Prince Aegon II Targaryen in House of the Dragon.
Set 172 years before the birth of the GOT character Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), the prequel series shows the events that led up to the decline of the House of Targaryen. One of these might be the coronation of Prince Aegon II after his father’s death.
Prince Aegon II, the firstborn son of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) and Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), was crowned the king of the Seven Kingdoms in episode 9 of the first season. Recently, during the NYC premiere of the second season which will probably see the new king in trouble, actor Glynn-Carney spoke of a tragic twist to PEOPLE Magazine (via Geo TV).
Don’t want to spoil anything. But look, when something as tragic as a tragic thing happens, it leaves a stain on a human being to the point of probably no return. It’s a dangerous thing to happen to a very vulnerable and fragile and volatile human being. So, God bless America.
The actor definitely did not give a spoiler, but his words sound like a warning for whatever is going to come for the unsuspecting fans.
Tom Glynn-Carney on the Character Development That King Aegon II Will Show
For much of the first season, Glynn-Carney’s character did not show much development despite the best efforts of his mother. However, that might finally change in the upcoming season according to what the actor told PEOPLE.
There is a guise of his that he’s trying to wear it well. He’s got a bit of a spring in his step. He’s also walking two inches taller than he would do, I think. He’s finding it exciting. It’s the first time we’ve seen Aegon with purpose. He’s never had purpose before.
The SAS: Rogue Heroes actor also said that this is the first time that Aegon has a purpose to wake up for and is a family man or the version of himself that he considered a family man.
House of Dragon Season 1 is available for streaming on HBO Max and Season 2 will premiere on June 16th.
