It was always pretty obvious that the iconic showdown between Godzilla and Kong wouldn’t be the only fight in the next Monster Verse movie. Similarly to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it looks like Godzilla and Kong will have to team up to take on a third creature or Titan.

It would be tough to give the winning spot to either Godzilla or Kong, so it makes perfect sense for a third party to take the place of the loser. At the moment, Godzilla reigns as King of the Monsters. But, Kong’s introduction to the mix looks set for him to attempt to usurp the Giant Lizard from his throne.

What’s not certain yet, is whether Godzilla goes to Skull Island or if Kong is moved from the Island for some reason. The official synopsis currently reads:

‘In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the Earth forever.’

As toys tend to do, one monster appearance seems to have been confirmed. Some early merchandise seems to have revealed that Nozuki will appear in the film. Nozuki is a giant winged serpent, whose role in the film is currently uncertain.

The most likely threat that brings Godzilla and Kong together, may be in the form of human design. The ‘human conspiracy’ mentioned in the synopsis could come in the form of Mechagodzilla.

Mechagodzilla is humanity’s attempt at defence against the Titans. A literal robotic copy of Godzilla, Mechagodzilla has the advantage of modern weaponry. Mechagodzilla may have enough power to take one giant beast. But two? Let’s see what’s in store.

Godzilla vs Kong is tentatively dated for cinema release on May 21, 2021. It is directed by Adam Wingard and stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir.
