Golden Globes: Pedro Pascal Fighting Not 1 But 3 ‘Succession’ Stars
The nominations for the 81st Golden Globes Awards honoring the top movies and television shows from the past year are here. Comedian Cedric the Entertainer and actor Wilmer Valderrama announced the nominees which marks a noteworthy event for award season as it is the first major network award show to reveal its year-end nominations. Pedro Pascal and Margot became the first-time Golden Globes nominees for their work in The Last of Us and Barbie respectively.
Pedro Pascal who played the lead in HBO’s The Last of Us alongside young actress Bella Ramsey had received critical acclaim for his performance. The show, which is based on a popular PlayStation video game is regarded as one of the best shows, that came out in 2023. But the actor has to compete with actors from one of the biggest and most successful shows Succession.

2023 has been a year for some of the great shows and HBO’s Succession and The Last of Us tops the chart. Succession stars Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong are nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series (Drama). They are up against Pedro Pascal, Gary Oldman, and Dominic West and fans do believe that Pedro Pascal’s Joel is a strong candidate to sweep the award at the Golden Globes 2024.
The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic drama series based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog. It showcases the world set in twenty years into a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection. The television series upon its’ premiere received positive reviews from the critics as well as the audience with appreciation for the actors. The Last of Us by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann was dubbed as the best adaptation of a video game. The amount of appreciation and attention the show garnered at the time of the release, fans won’t be surprised if Pascal surpasses Succession actors for the award.
Whereas Succession is a black comedy, a family drama with tragic comedy at its core. It centers on the Roy family and their fight to control the ownership of the company amidst the uncertain health of the head of the family played by Brian Cox. The show received praise for its writing, direction, and musical score along with the performances of the actors.
Where a section of the audience went out in praise for Pedro Pascal who is currently very busy with his projects. He is one of the actors who is in high demand for projects and will soon start to film part two of the show. He shared in an interview that for him to understand his character, it was simple because he did it with his own heart.
Pascal continued that he finds Joel to be a very hardened person and not somebody who would sit back and reflects upon his feeling. He added this hardened heart is the only way he survives.

The second season of The Last of Us is one of the most highly awaited shows and the actor was recently asked about his prep for it. In an interview with Esquire magazine, Pascal said,
“It wouldn’t make sense to follow the first game so faithfully only to stray severely from the path. So yeah, that’s my honest answer.”
Pedro Pascal’s character Joel dies in the video game but it has not been laid out if the makers are ready to kill a fan-favorite actor and character on-screen. Actress Bella Ramsey who plays Ellie on the show also noted that if that situation happens on the show, she is not sure if she is emotionally ready to take it in.
But showrunner Craig Mazin said he is not afraid to kill characters neither is co-creator and executive producer Neil Druckmann adding that he does not feel constrained by the source material.
Golden Globes 2024 is scheduled to take place on 7th January 2024 at The Beverly Hilton, in Beverly Hills, California.
