Greta Gerwig is On Her Way To Become A Big Studio Director
During an interview with the media outlet The New Yorker, Jeremy Barber, the agent of United Talent Agency based in California spoke about how Warner Bros and Mattel are collaborating for Greta Gerwig’s much-hyped project. He mentioned that the American toy company Mattel and the billion-dollar production house Warner Bros had insisted on going through the Little Women director’s script. However, Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach had clearly stated that the freedom to experiment with the script was an important requisite.
The actor-turned-director narrated the script in a poetic manner and the total budget for Barbie was set at around a hundred million dollars. Jeremy Barber also pointed out that the American toy company Mattel has chalked out a plan to engage with the filmmakers. Jeremy Barber said-
“To engage with filmmakers in a friendly way. Greta and I have been very consciously constructing a career. Her ambition is to be not the biggest woman director, but a big studio director. And Barbie was a piece of I.P. that was resonant to her.”
As only a few weeks are left for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie to hit the theatres, the aesthetics of the doll-based movie has already become viral. From trending hashtags like #Barbiecore on TikTok to Barbie-related memes flocking the internet- the movie has already become the talk of the town. The upcoming movie Barbie has helped Mattle come across multiple projects in Hollywood too.
Greta Gerwig Started Crying When She Stepped On The Barbie Set For The First Time
During the Cinema Con 2023 in Las Vegas, Greta Gerwig was present for the promotion of her upcoming movie Barbie along with the star-studded cast. The Lady Bird, director revealed that she became emotional when she stepped onto the Barbie set for the first time. The actor said-
“I cried when I stepped on the set for the first time. The cars that they made, it was so touching because all of the people who made the vehicles had just made the Batmobile and were so excited to get the pink paint out.”
Reel life Barbie Margot Robbie added, “You were just so happy; we felt that every day.”
On being asked about how many retakes were given for the scenes, Margot Robbie gushed and said-“I ruined all of Ryan’s takes. I’m so sorry for that.” Even Ryan Gosling replied in a sarcastic manner- “Unfortunately, [Ken] has no sense of humor, so there was no way to hide the laugh. Sorry about that, Greta.”
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is way different from what we have read about. In her Barbie verse, there are multiple Barbies and Kens. Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans would be seen playing different Ken’s in the movie. Singer Dua Lipa, Sharon Rooney, Issa Rae, Emma Mackey, and Anna Cruz Kayne are portraying the role of different Barbies.
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is slated to release on July 21, 2023.
