Halle Bailey’s Film Is On Track Over Memorial Day Weekend With A $110M Opening

Movie fans are already gushing over the plethora of thrilling summer releases. However, Rob Marshall’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid is one of the movies most eagerly awaited by Disney devotees.

In May, the movie, starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, will be released in theaters. With the release of the remake just over a few weeks away, marketing for The Little Mermaid has been sailing the seven seas. This has a variety of vibrant trailers, featurettes, and new pictures.

According to Deadline, The Little Mermaid is currently on pace to earn $110 million in its first four days of release over Memorial Day weekend.

However, that sum pales in comparison to Top Gun: Maverick’s record-breaking $160.5 million opening weekend from the previous year. Still, it’s still a strong start for a film that many predict will end up being among the highest-grossing films of 2023.

Disney favors this holiday weekend because Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End had a $153 million debut in 2007. In addition, Aladdin earned a commendable $116.8 million prior to the 2019 pandemic.

Well, The Little Mermaid has yet to receive any social media responses or reviews, but if they’re overwhelmingly favorable, this $110 million figure could quickly start to rise.

More About The Little Mermaid

Recently, The Little Mermaid has been the subject of a lot of news stories. The film has received a lot of attention for its casting decisions, and many fans have criticized Disney, saying that they are “pandering to woke audiences”.

This criticism has also been leveled at the recent Disney Plus (Disney+) film, Peter Pan and Wendy, in which Yara Shahidi played the role of Tinker Bell. However, The Little Mermaid appears to be expecting an astronomically successful opening weekend, despite all of the negative press and opinions that have been expressed about it.

Well, it sincerely seems like the film is destined to succeed and rank among Disney’s biggest openers. The Rob Marshall-directorial film, The Little Mermaid debuts in theaters on May 26, 2023.
