Kelly Ripa appeared on the late-night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and enjoyed her time amid different conversations. The host of the show, Jimmy Kimmel took the initiative and began asking about Ripa’s eldest son Michael Consuelos and about his experience of living alone in Brooklyn. On Tuesday’s show, Ripa shared that her son is attending NYU and living on his own like most other young people of his age.
Ripa shares, although her eldest son is learning to live alone, “he loves the freedom”. She further went on to joke, about what being born into privileged has done to him. “He hates paying his own rent, and he’s chronically poor. I don’t think he ever really experienced extreme poverty like now.” the fellow parent joked. Ever since Ripa’s time on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Michael Consuelos started making headlines for moving out of his house and living on his own in a neighborhood in Brooklyn.
Further, into the conversation, Ripa shared how her kids never appreciated their grandparents’ $20 Halloween gifts, but ever since her son started living alone, he has been inquiring about it. “Now that he’s living on his own, he’s called three times, like ‘did the Halloween envelope arrive?’” Ripa shared. Continuing the conversation the mother of three replied that her eldest son “is experiencing being an adult.”
Kelly Ripa defended herself after the online backlash over her joke
After the throwback to her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, few fans seemed to be offended by Ripa making fun of her son’s condition. It is of course difficult for youngsters to be on their own especially after being dependent on their parents for a long time. However, Ripa felt it was not offensive to joke about one’s own children, a joke must be taken lightly.
The TV personality posted an image on her Instagram with her son Michael Consuelos, after appearing on the late-night talk show, where she faced immense hate and backlash for making fun of her son on live television. The mother of three handled the situation carefully, and commented on her post, without further offending anyone or hurting sentiments.
“Michael goes to college and is a senior and works full time. He is in his first nonparent subsidized apt with roommates.” Ripa commented. Followed by “I’m used to getting a lot of slack because people love to have fake outrage over something they didn’t see. They only read a headline and wag their tired fingers.” She continued “I didn’t grow up privileged and neither did @instasuelos (her husband) We work and we expect our kids to as well.” Further, she ended her comment by stating, “And the fact that a pack of fools want to b***h about that, I say let ’em.”
Kelly Ripa’s joke about how she and her husband Mark Consuelos cannot get rid of their children was not appreciated positively by her fans and viewers. Despite the commotion, Ripa handled the situation and defended herself.
