One of the most talented and well-liked actresses of all time, Anne Hathaway is best known for her roles in The Devil Wears Prada, Les Miserables, The Dark Knight Rises, and other films. The actress has revealed how she got her career-changing role in The Princess Diaries, which has only increased the love and craze people have for her. She also starred alongside Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland which is also one of her most celebrated roles.

The actress also discussed how, despite never being on Tim Burton’s list of actors he wanted to cast in the film, she was adamant about being a part of Alice in Wonderland.

Anne Hathaway reveals her career-changing role

During an interview, actress Anne Hathaway revealed how she landed the role of awkward California teen Mia Thermopolis in 2001’s The Princess Diaries, which follows the actress’ character learning that she is the heir to the throne of a foreign land.

Hathaway shared, “I only had one audition for it. Back then, the film was called The Princess of Tribeca.” She continued that she was told that she was too small to audition for the role, but she somehow was convinced and managed to give her audition and she was called back for a screen test, but she flew to New Zealand the next day. To her luck, her audition tape was sent to Disney, who loved it and the actress adds,

“I was woken up by the call that I got it, and I was so happy because I really wanted this role. It was really a dream come true.” The actress reprised her character for the sequel in 2004 The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, and now, if rumors are to be believed, a third part is in development.

She said earlier this year that she is excited to see how excited people are about the forthcoming movie if it is going to happen. “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen,” she said back in 2022. However, there is no confirmation if the third part of the movie is going to happen or not.

Anna Hathaway on finding her way into Johnny Depp starring Alice in Wonderland

The talented actress who portrayed Mirana/White Queen in 2010’s Alice in Wonderland had shared that she wanted to challenge herself by putting herself in an uncomfortable situation like the challenging role of White Queen, but she was not the first choice of filmmaker Tim Burton to play the character.

She shared during an interview, “When Tim [Burton] came on board he had the cast he wanted and, of course, that didn’t include me.” But once again, to her luck, the actress who was supposed to play the role of White Queen decided to leave halfway due to scheduling conflicts and Burton remembered Hathaway.

The Interstellar actress shares that she was nervous about working alongside Tim Burton but she loved every second of it. She shared, Tim Burton was totally open to everything. He is not a director who says ‘no’ very often. He likes to play, he likes to explore. Even if he might disagree with you or if he doesn’t understand where you want to go, he will give you the opportunity to try. He is very easy to get along with. He is very interesting, very funny and he is a rule breaker.”

It is said that it did not matter to the actress much as she did not play the lead in the movie, but her character of the White Queen was powerful enough that, even today, people remember the same.

Anne Hathaway talks about working with Johnny Depp

Anne Hathaway starred in Alice in Wonderland alongside Johnny Depp and later in the sequel as well, and the actress always had wonderful things to say about Depp.

Back in 2010, she shared during an interview, “He has such a mystique about him that I feel like his fans and the media put on him. And he is as real a person as you can be. He’s, I think, exactly who he would be if none of this fame had happened to him. I admire that so greatly — it’s not only that it’s not gone to his head, but it’s not changed him one iota, and I think that’s remarkable.”

Such kind words by the actress reminded everyone that, despite the public defamation lawsuit, Depp has been one of the most influential and highest-paid actors of all time. He appeared in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland as the Mad Hatter for seven minutes and managed to make a salary of $50M.
