“He is terrifying”: Scarlett Johansson Was Scared For Her Life While Anthony Hopkins Was Stabbing Her With a Kitchen Knife in ‘Hitchcock’
It’s no secret that Scarlett Johansson is an incredible actress and has charmed millions of people with her beauty and skills. She gained worldwide recognition with her role as the superhero Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
One of Scarlett Johansson’s most iconic roles is of the late actress Janet Leigh in the biographical romance drama Hitchcock which was released in 2012. Although Johansson is not an amateur in the field of acting and has done her fair share of stunts as Black Widow and in other action movies, there was one particular scene in Hitchcock that had her react in a specific way.

Scarlett Johansson’s Reaction to Anthony Hopkins’ Performance
Hitchcock is based on the non-fiction book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho and depicts the relationship between Alfred Hitchcock and his wife, Alma Reville. The movie is directed by Sacha Gervasi and stars Anthony Hopkins in the role of the lead actor, Alfred Hitchcock.
The Lost in Translation actress recalled the filming of the famous shower sequence from the American thriller movie Psycho. The scene involved Hopkins in the role of Hitchcock jabbing Johansson in the face with a 12-inch-long kitchen knife. Despite the actress’ bravery, she couldn’t help but feel scared in the moment. She said:
“As much as Anthony Hopkins is a pussycat, he’s terrifying. Maybe I watched Silence of the Lambs too many times when I was a kid. Maybe I was having some flashbacks. So, I didn’t need too much preparation for the scene.”
Other members of the crew were also nervous about the scene because it had to be shot within the same day and they never wanted the actor to get wet. Maintaining the modesty in the scene was also a matter of concern on the set. However, Johansson was not too worried about any of these things as was Janet Leigh.
Scarlett Johansson Turned the Film’s Discussion into a Rehearsal
Scarlett Johansson has proved her immaculate acting skills time and time again, and one such instance was when she was asked to go over to Sacha Gervais’ place to confirm whether or not she was interested in playing the role of Janet Leigh in Hitchcock that turned into a rehearsal instead.

Speaking of the incident, Gervais told Ain’t It Cool News:
“She came over and we stopped working and she said, ‘What are you doing?’ I said, ‘Well, we’re just working on [the movie].’ She said, ‘Can I see?’ We were working on the peephole scene, just figuring out how to do it, and she said, ‘Why don’t I do this?’ It was a meeting about whether or not she would do the movie that turned into a rehearsal. Immediately. And she just went for it,”
Johansson tried to take Janet Leigh’s daughter Jamie Lee Curtis’ blessing before she completely committed to the role. Curtis was very nice to the actress and gave her some wonderful pictures along with amazing stories about her mother.
