The duo once had a weird fan encounter which the 62-year-old actor opened up about while he was discussing last year’s infamous Oscars incident. In a conversation on Power 105.1 FM’s The Breakfast Club last year, he shared facing a similar situation when Bassett was considering responding to a rude fan when he approached them in baggage claim at an airport.

He shared,

“[The fan] wanted an autograph. I said, ‘It’s not appropriate right now. Please give us our [privacy]. If you recognize us, then [others] will, and it’ll be on.'”

He continued that the fan “cussed” at the actress and was continuously provoking the actress just to see her reaction. The fan kept on making things difficult for the duo however he somehow persuaded his wife.

He shared,

“What we don’t wanna see is Angela Bassett pimp-slapping [anybody].”

He was quite clear that the rude fan was unable to get what he wanted from the actress back at the time. Meanwhile, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock last year at the 94th Academy Awards. The altercation happened as the comedian joked about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith probably being unaware of her health condition, alopecia that leads to hair loss. Later on, he publicly apologized for his actions following his ban from attending the Oscars for a decade.
