Margot Robbie once stunned her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio while filming their movie, The Wolf of Wall Street. The Suicide Squad star, despite being less experienced than the megastar at that time, took over to improve a love scene in the Martin Scorsese directorial, surprising everyone with her strength.
Margot Robbie’s Bold Step Stunned Leonardo DiCaprio
The chemistry between Margot Robbie and A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese‘s movie was well-received and gave the actress worldwide recognition. But behind this recognition and success lies an incident where Robbie surprised even DiCaprio with her confidence and strength.
While the co-stars were filming a love scene for The Wolf of Wall Street, the Barbie star unexpectedly took charge to correct it. According to ENews, Robbie opened up to Manhattan Magazine about this comical and awkward experience by stating:
“We were positioned while they lit around us in one scene, and I kind of pushed Leo’s head to one side and told him he was in my light and he moved out of [it], he was so incredulous that I had told him to get out of my light, and physically moved him out of the way, he was like, ‘Did you really just do that?'”
Despite knowing the fact that DiCaprio is a pro at filming steamy scenes, Robbie believed that the Titanic star would steal her spotlight and told him to move out of it without hesitation. The Killers of the Flower Moon star was surprised and found it humorous that Margot Robbie had moved him out to get the spotlight she wanted.
The steamy scene between the two stars in Scorsese’s movie was reportedly Robbie’s first experience of a full-fledged love scene. Her previous movies had implicit content but didn’t let the Bombshell star get featured in a full sizzling scene like that of The Wolf of Wall Street.
Martin Scorsese Praised Margot Robbie For Her Work
Even though Leonardo Dicaprio was smacked down by Margot Robbie, he did not stop her. Instead, the Shutter Island star motivated the actress to perform well. Robbie’s actions during the audition were indeed shocking but earned her the role that she desperately wanted and ultimately paid off for her.
According to Harper Bazaar, speaking of the audition in Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People Issue, director Martin Scorsese praised Margot for her work and said:
“She clinched her part in The Wolf of Wall Street during our first meeting, by hauling off and giving Leonardo DiCaprio a thunderclap of a slap on the face. [It was] an improvisation that stunned us all.”
The Birds of Prey actress earned immense success through Scorsese’s movie. She got cast in the lead role with Leonardo DiCaprio which was another reason why Margot Robbie was so excited during the audition and filming as well.
Even The Departed star recognized the actress’s work and predicted that Robbie would have an incredible acting career which has undeniably come true.
