Angelina Jolie has experienced mental health problems throughout her life, and she has even opened up about them in past interviews. The tragic disclosure that the Salt actress once went to great lengths to hire a hitman to kill her came at a time when Jolie felt like she couldn’t go on any longer. It was a string of somewhat painful events that led to this decision. It was more of a cry for help when she felt it was best to take her own life than to continue sticking to her dream.
Angelina Jolie once hired a hitman to kill her
The actress went in-depth with The Face about the incident and the reasons behind her decision to hire a hitman to carry out her assassination. She remarked, “They’re not that hard to find in New York.” The actress acknowledged that many people consider suicide when they are young.
Jolie further added,“With suicide comes all the guilt of people around you thinking they could have done something. With somebody being murdered, nobody takes some kind of guilty responsibility.”
She continued, “I was very aware that so many people around me, like my mother, would feel as though they didn’t give enough or do enough if I’d taken my own life. So my solution was that if someone else had taken my life—say, in a robbery—it would be murder, and no one would feel they’d let me down.”
The actress from Girl Interrupted confessed that she even hired the contract murderer. She disclosed that she intended to withdraw money gradually so that the assassin wouldn’t have access to a sizable sum in her bank account. Talking about the hitman, she said, “He was a decent enough person and asked if I could think about it and call him again in two months. Something changed in my life, and I figured I’d stick it out.”
Meanwhile, she recently completed filming Without Blood, her fourth feature as a director. And her upcoming projects include playing opera icon Maria Callas in Pablo Larran’s biographical vampire comedy about Pinochet, El Conde, which is set to be released in 2023.
