“He would crush it”: Not Antony Starr, DC Fans Demand Suicide Squad Actor Play New Reverse Flash
DC star Joel Kinnaman made his international film debut in the 2011 movie The Darkest Hour. Despite his desire to gain recognition as an actor in the U.S., he has always tried to play characters that he finds interesting. In 2016, he was cast as Rick Flag in David Ayer’s DC movie Suicide Squad.
The DC Universe has one of the biggest fandoms in the world, thanks to its entertaining adaptations of the DC Comics superhero stories. James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed as the co-CEOs of DC Films just a little over a year ago. Recently, Joel Kinnaman expressed his interest in playing a character in the James Gunn-run franchise, and the fan castings have already begun.

Fans Have Found the Perfect DC Role for Joel Kinnaman
Joel Kinnaman began his acting career as a child actor in 1990 when he starred in the soap opera Storstad. After a twelve-year-long break from acting, he returned to it in 2002. While studying in drama school, he starred in films such as Hannah med H and God Save the King. He did not gain attention in the Sweden film industry until he got cast in Easy Money in 2010.
Playing a superhero or even becoming a part of a franchise as big as DC is something nearly every actor dreams of. However, very few get the chance to fulfill that dream. Joel Kinnaman happened to be one of those lucky actors who landed a role in the franchise.

Kinnaman recently expressed his desire to star as a villain in James Gunn’s DCU according to DCU Updates on X (formerly Twitter). The account also asked fans if they wished to see the actor play any particular villain which led to the onslaught of suggestions from the fandom as one of them wrote: “Eobard Thawne, especially if Joel Kinnaman gets to use his native Swedish accent… He would crush it.”

A vast majority of the fans have the same opinion: Kinnaman should star as Reverse Flash aka Eobard Thawne. Whether or not the fan casting will taken into consideration by James Gunn remains to be seen.
Joel Kinnaman Has Loved Working with James Gunn
Joel Kinnaman starred as Rick Flag for the first time in 2016’s Suicide Squad. He went on to reprise that role in James Gunn’s 2021 reboot of the movie The Suicide Squad. Gunn is undoubtedly one of the best directors when it comes to the superhero genre so it comes as a given that Kinnaman loved working with him on the movie.
While talking to Men’s Health, The Informer actor revealed what it was like working with the Guardians of the Galaxy director, saying:
“It’s definitely one of the great experiences of my career. He is such a great director on all levels. And he could really sense where I was at on an emotional level, and pushed me over the edge when there were those deeper emotions.”
Kinnaman went on to say that working with Gunn was a delight for him as the director not only helped him with the comedic side of things in which he does have much experience but also created a warm and friendly environment for everyone on the set.
