“He’ll get slapped again”: Mads Mikkelsen’s Another Round Director Has an Ominous Warning for Chris Rock After Confirmed Remake News
Thomas Vinterberg’s Oscar-winning Danish movie Druk is set to be remade in English titled Another Round. Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company has taken on this project, and there’s no information if we will see the Titanic actor take on one of the lead roles himself. Druk saw the intermingling of influences from Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. It will be interesting to see how authentic the English remake remains.
Who Will Direct Another Round Remake?
Another Round, produced by Appian Way Productions, is set to be directed by comedian Chris Rock. While he is not new to the world of directing feature films, he has only directed 5 movies so far. His comedy prowess has garnered much acclaim for him, barring that one slap at the Oscars that made headlines for weeks. Will Smith stepped onto the stage while Rock was there to deliver a slap across the comedian’s face.
This was because Rock joked about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. That controversy brought to light various instances where Rock had been sexist and a bit destructive in his jokes even previously. Nonetheless, the slap saved the Smiths’ marriage as the couple was on the verge of a divorce. Ekstra Bladet caught up with Druk director Thomas Vinterberg on a red-carpet event to learn his views on the English remake.
She especially pointed out how Rock was an interesting choice to direct the black comedy movie. Vinterberg, in response, had a warning in mind for Rock to ensure he does not hamper the sanctity of the movie. He said in the video posted on Instagram,
“The choice of Chris Rock is exciting. It’s exciting what he comes up with. I am full of good expectations. If he does something shitty, he gets one more slap.”
Seems like Vinterberg is well aware of the controversies stirred by Rock, and as a director, his priority is always seeing justice done to his work. Leonardo DiCaprio bought the rights to the film soon after Druk became a resounding success in 2021. The movie seems to be moving forward swiftly. Rock has written and directed movies including Head of State, I Think I Love My Wife, and Top Five. At the same time, Rock is expected to fare well in the comedic aspects of the movie, given his expertise in stand-up comedy.
What Is Another Round About?
Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang, and Lars Ranthe starred in the original movie Druk. It follows the life of four teachers of high school students who aspire to sail through life under the influence of alcohol. They maintain a level of inebriation to see how alcohol can impact their daily lives. The word Druk also means binge drinking in Danish. Hence, the story is about alcohol and its effect on humans.
As the four friends deal with a midlife crisis by drowning in alcohol, tragedy is bound to strike. The movie centres on friendship, binge drinking, and how adults go about with a crisis of purpose as they get older. There is no information as to who will star as the four central friends in the English remake. Only the director and the production crew have been reported for sure. Oscar-nominated writer Stuart Bloomberg has worked on an initial script for the movie.
