Here’s How Spider-Man Can Be Part Of Both Sony And MCU At The Same Time

Spider-Man is finally back in the MCU with Marvel and Sony coming to a settlement regarding the property. But one unique thing has come out of the agreement. It is the idea that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man can now appear both in the MCU and Sony’s Spider-villain universe. Such a transfer surely will be messy and not at all easy to carry out. But there’s still some ways this can be done.

No one knows the exact details of the agreement but it’s a possibility that Marvel could have agreed to consider Sony’s movies as part of the wider MCU. As such, Spider-Man could act as the connective tissue here. There has been some precedent for this and this certainly isn’t coming out of nowhere. Back in 2017, Spider–Man producer Amy Pascal had suggested that Venom and other Spider-Villain movies could very well be considered “adjuncts” to the MCU. Such a relationship could be considered similar to how the MCU and the Marvel Television operates. Those shows have many nods and tie-ins to the MCU but are hardly essential to the narrative thrust of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. If this happens, then it will essentially be a win for Sony since they will get to tie their universe to the MCU which is much more successful critically and financially.

But what is in it for Marvel? By now it’s no secret that the MCU is Disney’s darling. Allowing the Sony films to enter it could potentially damage the brand.

Another way to go about it would be to allow Spider-man to jump between the dimensions. He could travel to Venom’s universe and then come back to the MCU. This could be done through the idea of the Multiverse which has already been subtly introduced in the MCU. It’s very possible that Peter could gain the ability to jump between dimensions. With his identity being exposed, he could stay in the main Marvel universe but could go to Venom’s universe to perhaps continue with his education.

The saddest possibility is that Marvel could use Holland’s Spider-Man in two more movies and then have him leave the universe altogether. It’s not hard to imagine a scenario where Spider-Man sacrifices himself to save the multiverse which would potentially transport or transplant him to another universe- Sony’s Marvel universe. But for now we can certainly enjoy the two more Spider-Man movies in the MCU.
