Jeffrey Epstein was a wealthy investor with a vast network of famous connections before his sudden passing in 2019. Among the various information about his life, it was found that he had allegedly given sizable donations to one of the most prestigious colleges in the world, whose reputation is based on expertise, morality, and social responsibility.

Which university received funding from Jeffrey Epstein?

Prior to his 2008 arrest for his involvement in heinous crimes related to s*x trafficking, billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein reportedly gave more than $9 million to Harvard University. These contributions were provided to the esteemed Ivy League college in order to help in its research and academic activities.

Martin Nowak, a Harvard professor, was one of the recipients of Epstein’s generosity. He received $500,000 from Epstein between 1999 and 2001, and later, $6.5 million to start a Program for Evolutionary Dynamics (PED). Along with three other contributors, Epstein gave $2 million to the university’s effort to establish a Jewish student center. Between 2010 and 2015, Epstein was introducing prospective contributors to Harvard, even after the university ceased taking donations from him after his arrest.

Leon Black, a billionaire in private equity, was one of the individuals connected to Epstein through donations to Harvard. Black gave $7 million to support Nowak’s PED. Black paid Epstein $158 million over the years, which was ultimately revealed, sparking questions about the nature of their connection and the motivations behind these payments.

The former president of Harvard and Jeffrey Epstein were close friends

Jeffrey Epstein’s strong association with former Harvard president Lawrence Summers was also made public, along with his financial ties to Harvard. According to reports, Epstein and Summers frequently spoke about philanthropy. Epstein sent $110,000 to Summers’ wife’s NGO, a donation that she later regretted, as she donated more money to a group fighting s*x trafficking following Epstein’s second arrest.

Further casting doubt on the connection between the financier and the former president of the institution was the fact that Summers’ name appeared on Epstein’s flight logs. It is puzzling why such a famous university, which is also one of the most renowned in the world, would want its name associated with the tainted name of such a controversial person.

Following all of these reports, Harvard is apparently planning to donate the remaining funds Epstein gave, to organizations that help victims of s*xual assault and human trafficking.
