In 2016, retired optometrist Sanderson claimed that Gwyneth Paltrow was responsible for the collision that happened at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah. The trial was hilarious and emotional at the same time. Paltrow has been declared not guilty by the jury and she won her counterclaim against Sanderson for $1. The actress was given the amount as compensatory damages. This final trial decision came out on Thursday.

After winning the lawsuit, while leaving the courtroom, Paltrow leaned towards Sanderson and said, “I wish you well.” To which Sanderson responded by saying, “Thank You, Dear.”  Throughout the trail, Paltrow maintained a straight face with a confident demeanor.

Sanderson claimed that Paltrow collided with him while skiing out of control. He claimed he was skiing ahead of Paltrow when she crashed into him from behind. The retired optometrist claims he suffered four broken ribs as well as long-term psychological damage.

During the trial, Sanderson said,

“I remember feeling sore, my ribs were really sore. And my brain felt like it had been injected with Novocaine, I don’t know how else to describe it. It was just numb. Nothing was making sense.”

Sanderson’s daughter testified during the trial that her father was a multitasker, but that since the accident, he has been hesitant to do simple tasks.

Paltrow asserted that it was Sanderson who skied into her back while she was trying to watch her children ski down the bunny slope. She said that after the collision they both fell to the ground. She confessed that after the collision she lost her cool and yelled at Sanderson because she thought he did it purposely. Paltrow said,

“I pushed down the hill and I turned around and yelled at him … I said, ‘You skied directly into my … back.’ To which Sanderson responded by saying, ‘I am sorry.'”

During one of the trials, Paltrow said that during the collision she thought the man who collided with her was trying to sexually assault her. While explaining her perspective on the accident with Sanderson, the Iron man actress said,

“I was skiing and two skis came between my skis, forcing my legs apart. And then there was a body pressing against me.”

Paltrow and Sanderson’s case has been making waves on the internet since the trial began. Many people thought that Paltrow was guilty but on Thursday after the jury’s decision, the Mortdecai actress walked guilt-free.
