How Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Will Be The Darkest MCU Film To Date?
The director and writer of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn has finally teased that Chukwudi Iwuji, who had a significant role in Peacemaker will provide an “explosive” performance in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
While the character of Iwuji in the upcoming MCU movie is relatively unknown, director Gunn has gone on record to tease the actor’s performance on Twitter, saying, “Wait till you see Chuk murder it in [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3] with a truly explosive performance.”

Chukwudi Iwuji, who played the twisted Clemson Murn on James Gunn’s HBO Max’s Peacemaker, opened up on his upcoming role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 back in January, stating his so-far unnamed character as “complex” and “extremely powerful”
While all important details remain dubious, it is now confirmed that Iwuji will play the villain of the movie – a massive leap in his career.
“James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe,” Iwuji said. “So he’s deeply complex and deeply powerful, and I hope intriguing. I hope I bring that to it. (Laughs.)”
Guardians Vs. Peacemaker
Chukwudi has also talked about how his character in Guardians of the Galay 3 was different from his role in DC’s Peacemaker. “Murn is a very contained guy with bursts of anger and emotion,” Iwuji said. “What I’m dealing with is a completely different guy, who, let’s just say, is the extreme opposite of Murn in many ways. It’s a different kind of world and universe.”

Like Iwuji’s character, many plot details for Gurdians of the Galaxy 3 are kept under strict wraps, except for a few set image reveals. However, Gunn has confirmed that Vol. 3 will be bringing this version of Guardians hailed by Gunn himself, to an end.
“I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story…,” he said. “That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.” Gunn states that the third movie will be “so, so dark and different from what light-hearted fans might expect it to be,” teasing that unlike the last movies in most trilogies, Vol. 3 is not going to disappoint its fans.

After Guardians 3, Gunn has revealed that he is going to focus more on television after his commendable work on DC’s Peacemaker. Gunn also revealed by saying that a few of his projects “may take different amounts of [his] time,” with Peacemaker having him direct, write, and “[spend] all my time on set.”
Addressing his MCU future, Gunn revealed that “there are presently no characters at either Marvel or DC that I want to be working with right now that I am not.”
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is slated to open on May 5, 2023.
