Starring Simu Liu in the lead role, the movie went on to be one of the best Marvel movies in that particular phase with an incredible storyline and perfect casting.

Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi Paycheck was Huge
Before entering the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe, the China-born star Simu Liu acted as an extra in movies like Pacific Rim and worked on the comedy series Kim’s Convenience. He rose to fame in Canada with various projects and his charming personality. When Kevin Feige and Marvel began their search for an actor to play the titular role in Shang-Chi, they auditioned thousands of actors from across the world.
However, the impression Liu left on the casting directors was way ahead of anyone else. He did not just have the ability to have the audience relate to him but was equally talented in comedy and action, the two genres that gave a base to the planned Marvel movie.
For this, Liu was reportedly paid $6 million. The movie went on to be one of the brightest shining stars on Liu’s resume as he continued to find his niche in the industry. After that, Liu went on to star in Barbie, another record-breaking hit at the box office. Though his current net worth stands at $4 million, it could be a lot more considering he bought a $5 million mansion back in 2021.
Shang-Chi smashed the box office
Spending $150 million in making Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings was a great decision on Marvel’s part as the studio was able to share a great story while entertaining the Asian subcontinent as well. The movie grossed $432 million at the box office and received glowing reviews on all aggregate sites.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings stands at a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a huge deal for the Marvel studios. The movie skyrocketed Liu’s fame and made him one of the best-rising stars in the industry.
Shang-Chi Sequel is in the works
Considering the massive success of the first movie, it came as no surprise when Marvel decided to make a sequel to Shang-Chi. With Liu returning in the lead role, Shang-Chi 2 is in development with great actors attached to the project. Though the release date has not been finalized yet, it’s believed that the sequel will probably hit the big screen before the penultimate Avengers movies.
Marvel will use the Shang-Chi sequel to perhaps bridge the remaining gaps in the storyline and pave the way for the Avengers movies and Doctor Doom’s arrival. It’s rumored that Destin Daniel Cretton is returning to direct the sequel since he did a great job with the first movie itself.
