Reputed media personality Howard Stern is known as someone who never shies away from speaking his mind. Whether it’s about putting uncomfortable questions in front of his guests or his unique sense of humor- the celebrated chat show host keeps his head high, despite being surrounded by controversies.
Recently, the 69-year-old spoke in favor of Jo Koy on his chat show regarding his debut as the Golden Globe Award show host.
Howard Stern Criticized Hollywood And Supported 81st Golden Globe Award Host Jo Koy
The 81st Golden Globe Awards not only emerged lucky for Succession and Oppenheimer but also led to Jo Koy’s debut as a host. The American comedian and actor was subjected to backlash for making gigs with noted celebrities like Taylor Swift, Saltburn star Barry Keoghan, Oppenheimer’s timing, and Margot Robbie’s Barbie.
However, Howard Stern spoke in favor of the Golden Globe host during a recent episode of The Howard Stern Show after coming across that he hardly had 10 days to prepare for the hosting job. He said-
“No wonder no one wants this gig — you can’t make fun of anybody anymore. They work their asses off … you’re kind of doomed if you don’t have some time to put thought into it.”
While talking about the difficult job of a host, Howard Stern slammed Hollywood for the lack of humor. He further said-
“Standing up there and telling those jokes to a bunch of people who don’t want to be laughed at is the biggest bummer in the world, Hollywood has no sense of humor about itself … if you’re shelling out 25, 30 percent of your income on publicists and agents … you don’t want to be goofed on on television.”
Howard Stern’s criticism of Hollywood was also supported by his fans on social media.
Golden Globe Host Jo Koy Responds To The Criticism
Jo Koy broke his silence on the backlash he was subjected to after hosting the 81st Golden Globe Awards. During an appearance on Good Morning America, Jo Koy mentioned that hosting is a tough gig. He said-
“I had fun. You know, it was a moment that I’ll always remember. It’s a tough room. It was a hard job, I’m not going to lie … I’d be lying if [I said] it doesn’t hurt … Hosting is just a tough gig. Yes, I’m a standup comic but that hosting position it’s a different style. I kind of went in and did the writers’ thing. We had 10 days to write this monologue. It was a crash course. I feel bad, but I got to still say I loved what I did.”
While talking about what he regrets the most from the 81st Golden Globe Awards hosting gig, the comedian straightaway spoke about the NFL and Taylor Swift joke. He said-
“I think it was when the Taylor [Swift] one was just a little flat … It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more on the NFL … I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way.”
Jo Koy’s gigs on Ozempic, Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Barry Keoghan’s n*de scenes in Saltburn were the highlights of the prestigious ceremony.
