Even today, a lot of people will agree that How I Met Your Mother was one of the most successful fan-favorite sitcoms of all time. However, the standalone sequel, How I Met Your Father, which came out in 2022, managed to garner fans’ attention, albeit not as profoundly.

The series starring Hilary Duff in the lead as Sophie recently ended its second season. New reports confirmed that Hulu has canceled the Duff-led sequel series after two seasons. The decision was announced after Hulu canceled the popular sitcom The Great after three seasons.

HIMYF picked up eight years after the events of the HIMYM finale and focused on a new friend group consisting of Sophie, Jesse, Valentina, Charlie, Ellen, and Sid. Kim Cattrall played 58-year-old Sophie in the plot, and unlike the original, the pilot established that our protagonist had already met the father.

The Hilary Duff show saw some favorites from How I Met Your Mother cross over into the new series, mainly Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris. The show has plans to bring the original cast back. However, the dreams have been shattered after the news of the show’s cancellation.

How I Met Your Father was a sweet return to the program that many viewers identified with Ted Mosby, until the finale. The Season 2 finale, which will now have to serve as a series finale, saw Sophie dating potential baby daddy Jesse. While Sid, another possible father, watched his marriage to Hannah crumble.

The final scene also revealed that Val and Charlie, who split up in Season 1 because Charlie didn’t want to have children, finally have a son named Alex, which raises further questions. However, fans were furious after the show got canceled, leaving them hanging on the exciting season 2 ending. They took to X to express their anger.

A fan wrote, “Huge mistake @hulu, can’t leave me hanging like that after the season two finale… smh #HIMYF.” It was followed by a series of posts.
