If you asked the X-Men fandom what they wished for the most, they would probably collectively answer that they want the X-Men to become MCU canon. With Deadpool & Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, Marvel delighted both fandoms equally and paved the way for a reinvigorated and renewed Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The movie has broken records and reestablished fans’ hopes for good projects from the superhero studio. From comic-accurate suits to numerous Wolverine variants across the Multiverse, Deadpool & Wolverine touches upon each aspect splendidly.

For the longest time, the fandom craved to see Hugh Jackman don the ultimate yellow and blue Wolverine suit that is shown in the comic books. In the X-Men movies, he is always seen in a white vest or regular clothes that don’t spark nostalgia for the fans. Finally, in Deadpool & Wolverine, we got to see Jackman in his comic-accurate avatar.

However, Jackman’s earlier animated flick Flushed Away beat Deadpool & Wolverine to the punch in showcasing the smashing suit. Voiced by Jackman, Roddy’s character goes through his wardrobe in one particular scene as he picks his outfit for the day.

He sees various clothes but eventually gets confused between Elvis’s iconic white sequined suit and Wolverine’s yellow and blue spandex suit. Flushed Away got great reviews for its animation and narrative as it went on to make $178.3 million at the box office.

The story follows Roddy who is a rich and lavish lifestyle-loving rodent. He loves his pampered life of comfort but it all goes south when Roddy is flushed down a toilet and finds himself in the sewers of London.

Before Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel’s highly successful animated series X-Men ‘97 also featured Wolverine in his comic-accurate suit. Fans were delighted to see the super mutant in that avatar as he looked incredible in the yellow and blue costume. With Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel made certain modifications to the entire look and made it look more believable.

In live-action, characters need to look realistic, rather than give an over-the-top vibe. Removing the shoulder pads and the iconic hairstyle from the look, Jackman was able to pull off the modern Wolverine attire that also harkened back to the nostalgic comic book era.

Marvel Studios killed two birds with one stone as they got to showcase the signature red and yellow contrast, much like Deadpool and Wolverine’s personalities as well. This is not the first time the superhero studio has taken such measures, as almost all movies and heroes undergo certain alterations to fit the screen better.
