Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Was Reportedly Cut Out of Doctor Strange 2 Due to Deadpool 3
When Hugh Jackman portrayed Wolverine one last time in Logan, it was an emotional moment for his fans, who had loved the character for years. Jackman himself considered that Logan was the best and truest depiction of the character to date. In the upcoming film Deadpool 3, Jackman finally decided to put the claws back on after having sworn off the idea for so long. Deadpool 3 is set for release on November 8, 2024. 2024 is a significant year that will mark the 50th anniversary of Wolverine’s first appearance in Marvel Comics.
Why Did Jackman’s Wolverine Not Feature in Doctor Strange 2?
Logan gave Wolverine a perfect ending that would be difficult to undo or contradict. Perhaps Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would have given Wolverine another second in the spotlight. There had been various rumors about Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine for an MCU appearance in Doctor Strange 2. Jackman played the adamantium-infused mutant for nearly two decades as part of Fox’s X-Men franchise. He has said in the past he’d be open to playing the character again in the MCU for the right reason.
According to various sources on Twitter, Marvel Studios reportedly wanted Hugh Jackman to return as Wolverine for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but, for one reason or another, plans fell through. The original plan would feature a fight between Jackman’s Wolverine and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, ultimately ending with the former being defeated. However, there is a possibility that Jackman turned down the return due to the fact that his Wolverine would end up succumbing to the Scarlet Witch. If this was indeed the case, many would agree that Jackman’s return would be diminished as that could be his last performance as the fan-favorite mutant.
Hugh Jackman To Return As The MCU’s Wolverine In Deadpool 3
Disney and Deadpool are undeniably an interesting match. According to latest developments, Hugh Jackman is all set to make his comeback as Wolverine to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool 3. For a long period of time, it was a long-standing question for all as to , who will play the MCU’s Wolverine?
Though we saw the end of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Logan, surprising return of comic book character’s is not just possible but also highly expected. Jackman’s Wolverine rendition in Logan and Deadpool 3 is expected to differ, and regarding what we could expect from the new MCU Wolverine? Jackman responded saying, “He’s definitely angrier, acerbic, grumpy, and he’s gonna take a lot of free shots at Ryan Reynolds, let me tell you… Physically, that is.”
Describing the relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU, Jackman said, “10 being really close, zero being — that’s what we are, we are zero. We are opposites. Hate each other. He’s annoyed by him. Wants to be a million miles away from him or punch him in the head. So, unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in the movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot… [They are] Polar opposites. He’s my vinegar to his sugar. He’s the fast-talking, quick-word loudmouth and my character just wants to punch him in the head.
Though Jackman had previously announced of not playing Wolverine again, it nearly took three years of convincing when Jackman finally agreed to return to the character.
