“I allowed myself to trust too much”: Shania Twain Went Through Hell After Learning Her Husband’s Affair With Her Close Friend
Shania Twain is one of the most famous singers of all time. She rose to fame in the 1990s and since then, she has been through all sorts of ups and downs in her life. The singer was forced to take a break from her career for 15 years as she battled Lyme disease but returned to the industry in 2017 and dropped an album called Now.
During her hiatus, the singer also discovered that her husband, producer Mutt Lange, was cheating on her with her close friend, Marie Anne Thiebaud. After ending her relationship, the singer got engaged to Marie Anne Thiebaud’s ex-husband. She previously talked about her relationship in her latest interview.
Shania Twain talked about her failed relationship
Singer Shania Twain discovered during her 15-year-old hiatus that her husband, producer Mutt Lange, was cheating on her. She recently appeared on the Armchair Expert podcast and explained how she felt during that time,
“I don’t think that a lot of things that happened to me since my divorce should have been so hard on me. I should have been less naive about life’s ups and downs. Maybe I’m too much, like, ‘That’s all behind me.'”
The singer got married to Mutt Lange in 1993 and welcomed a son in 2001. In 2008, Mutt Lange cheated on Shania Twain with her best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. They got separated and were divorced in June 2010.
The singer got married to Frederic Thiebaud in 2011
Shania Twain got married to Marie-Anne Thiebaud’s ex-husband, Frederic Thiebaud in 2011 as the two suffered from a similar heartbreak. She recently talked about how she dealt with the situation with Thiebaud,
“I did not get close to Fred at all, we didn’t have each other’s numbers. He was not really part of our daily lives because he was working these crazy hours. A lot of travel [for his] very high-profile company, just suit and tie and so he would be around, like, weekend dinners and stuff like that — we would all eat together and that was it.”
She further explained that Thiebaud, who is a business executive, handled the situation better,
“He was so thoughtful about it all… It was not cool with him, but he was smarter about it. I was uncontrollably fragile over it, which I had never felt before ever because I thought for once I was stable. I really believe that I’m safe, so that really devastated me I think more than any other instability I’ve ever felt. This is one of the smartest people I know, he didn’t know either. That helped me feel better… Neither of us saw it coming … I allowed myself to trust too much … I did let my guard down too much.”
The singer got engaged to Frederic Thiebaud in December 2010 just six months after her divorce from Mutt Lange.
Shania Twain suffered from Lyme disease
This hiatus was forced on the singer as she battled Lyme disease after getting bitten by a tick in Virginia in 2003. This led to her developing serious voice loss and the singer even thought that she might “never sing again.” She disappeared from the scene for 15 years but returned to music with the album Now, which she released in 2017. She previously performed That Don’t Impress Me Much, one of the most famous songs in her discography at the People’s Choice Awards.
