Olivia Rodrigo‘s parents encouraged her to work on her acting and singing skills since she was a kid, and even got her enrolled in different programs. Taylor Swift’s country music songs intrigued Rodrigo about songwriting. She was 12 when she landed her debut film role in a direct-to-video movie, An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success.

Fast forward to 9 years later and she is one of the most beloved pop musicians. The Guts World Tour has been going great so far, and the Vampire singer seems to have been enjoying it as much as the fans are. One incident that proves how far she has come as a performer is her falling into a hole in the stage and getting right back up during her performance in Melbourne.

During her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she addressed the incident and admitted that she had to be hospitalized to make sure she did not have a concussion. She further said:

The nurse was a Filipino man with the same name as my grandpa, who just passed away a few months ago. And so I was like, “Wow, that was him looking out for me, making sure I didn’t get hurt,” and so I’m really happy it happened.

Fallon also said that it must have been Rodrigo’s grandfather who must have been proud of her and wanted to make sure that she was doing alright after the fall.

When asked what was the highlight of her tour, Rodrigo said it was going to the Philippines for a show. She admitted that it was very special for her because she identifies as Filipino-American and has never been there before. She told Fallon that the audience there was amazing.

Everyone was so great, such good singers. There’s a rumor that they’re like, they’re really good at karaoke, and everyone in the arena, they were like, singing in harmony. It was like, insane. They were singing my lyrics back to me—perfectly on pitch, perfectly on key. It was awesome. Yeah, they were great.

The Good 4 U singer also said that she loved the food there, and Fallon agreed with her. Elsewhere in the interview, she also recounted how she was interrogated by the cops while on tour. Luckily, she was not in any trouble, and the cops had mistaken her for someone else with a similar name who had been in legal trouble before. Nevertheless, the experience was very nerve-wracking for the songstress.
