“I can’t believe she’s like a grown woman now”: Denzel Washington Still in Shock a Former Child Star is Now His Equal as Equalizer 3 Co-Star
Denzel Washington is one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood with a four-decade long career. Over the years, he has starred in uncountable movies, some of which are the greatest hits of all time such as The Magnificent Seven, Unstoppable, Safe House and The Equalizer.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, The Equalizer is a vigilante action-thriller film trilogy whose first installment was released in 2014. The first movie had followed the struggle of a retired U.S. marine officer turned DIA Officer to protect a teenage prostitute from a Russian mafia. The third and final installment of this trilogy that is going to be released on September 1, 2023, reunites Denzel Washington with one of his former co-stars.
The Equalizer 3 Reunites Denzel Washington with Former Co-star
In the 2004 movie Man on Fire, Denzel Washington starred as John Creasy who is hired as a bodyguard to actress Dakota Fanning’s character Lupita “Pita” Ramos. Fanning was only 10 years old at the time. Now, almost two decades later, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress is back to join Washington in The Equalizer 3.
Director Antoine Fuqua, known for his penchant for the action and thriller genres, addressed his idea of putting the two of them together, saying:
“Dakota is very competitive and obviously, as a child, her first [acting] experience with Denzel Washington is very powerful, emotional. But you can see how she has grown quite a bit and I think it was more fascinating for Denzel than anyone else. Every once in a while, when I would yell cut, he [Washington] would just look over and be like, ‘I can’t believe she’s like a grown woman now!'”
Both Washington and Fanning are excited about having gotten the chance to work with each other once again after such a long time. This movie is probably the one that will be bidding farewell to the former’s character Robert McCall in The Equalizer trilogy and while much is not known about Fanning’s character, it seems like that she will be an aide to the protagonist Mr. McCall.

Speaking of this miraculous co-incidence, Dakota Fanning claimed that she would have done anything to be cast alongside Denzel Washington because it’s like a “dream come true” for her. Washington didn’t hold back and praised Fanning, saying: “Dakota has that ‘I’m in charge, I’ll kick your behind’ gene. Don’t let the smooth taste fool you. She ain’t fooling me.”

It’s not very often that actors get the chance to work with their former co-stars unless they are starring in a movie franchise or a web/TV series. Washington and Fanning seem to have gotten lucky in that regard as although it has been decades since they last worked together, they are going to star in a completely different project from the one they initially starred in.
