“I Can’t Do It With Her”: Ryan Gosling Hated Rachel McAdams While Filming ‘the Notebook’, Wanted Director to Throw Her Out Despite Dating Her for Years
The Notebook featured one of the most breathtaking romantic performances ever by Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, but the inside story was almost entirely different. There is no denying the on-screen hot chemistry between the two actors, despite the movie’s mixed reaction from both critics and fans. A man is seen reading a notebook from the 1940s about a young couple who fall in love in the much-loved movie, which was released in 2004 and was based on a book of the same name.
However, things didn’t start out well for the two leading actors because Gosling allegedly wanted McAdams to get fired due to their lack of chemistry. Gosling pulled the director of the film, Nick Cassavetes, aside and asked if he could fire his co-star. Cassavetes admitted this back in 2014. He informed VH-1, “Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not.”

Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling couldn’t stand each other on the set of The Notebook!
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams didn’t get along during the filming of The Notebook, despite the fact that they appeared to be romantically involved in real life. Sadly, their relationship only lasted for two years. They reportedly broke up miserably because of McAdams’s reluctance to have children and their hectic work schedules. This made Gosling interrupt a scene in order to ask the film’s director, Nick Cassavetes, to fire McAdams because of their heated off-screen arguments. However, their breakup hit personal to their fans who really loved their pair.
Cassavetes later admitted that the couple was really not getting along on set. He mentioned that once he asked Gosling for a scene with McAdams, but he said, “I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.” However, both actors were able to continue working together despite their off-screen conflicts.
Ryan Gosling wanted Rachel McAdams off the set, but they managed to work later!
Gosling and McAdams may have dated for two years and worked on one of the most romantic films ever, but it turns out they were not friends back when they were starring in The Notebook. Nick Cassavetes contributed to the resolution of the conflict by pressuring the two actors. He helped them resolve their differences and express their emotions. He claimed they entered a room and started yelling and screaming at one another. And when they returned, they said everything was fine, and they could resume shooting.
After that, according to Cassavetes, things went well between the two. “They had it worked out,” he said as he ended the conversation. He believed Gosling respected McAdams for standing up for her persona, and McAdams was glad to have that information out in the open. The rest of the film was not easy to work on due to their fights, but it was made easier somehow.
