Jennifer Lawrence is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actresses, but even she has had her share of missed opportunities. One such instance was losing out on the lead role in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to Mia Wasikowska.

The Red Sparrow star previously spoke about this setback on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show, revealing that it was the only time she was truly “devastated” after losing an audition. She explained.

“But the one thing that killed me, like the only time I’ve ever been truly devastated by losing an audition — ’cause most of the time you’re like, ‘Ah, wasn’t meant to be, move on, what can you do?’ — was Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.”

Despite her disappointment, the mother of one recognized that Wasikowska was perfect and amazing in the role of Alice. She said on the Howard Stern Show,

“She’s perfect and amazing. Plus I couldn’t have faked a British accent.”

Further, in the interview, Lawrence also shared that she had a conversation with fellow actress Emma Stone about the competitive nature of the industry and how they often auditioned for the same roles. She added.

“Emma Stone and I had this conversation once because we always used to do the ‘castings’ for the same thing, which is stupid because our careers are different.”

While Stone was able to secure a role that Lawrence had also coveted, it was losing the opportunity to play Alice that truly affected her. However, the Don’t Look Up star remembered that she regretted not taking advice from Adele for her box office bomb.

The Oscar-winning actress has had a successful acting career, but it wasn’t without facing challenges. Despite starring in some of the biggest films of the last decade, including The Hunger Games franchise, Silver Linings Playbook, and Don’t Look Up, Lawrence has admitted to making some poor project decisions.

One such decision was starring in the 2016 sci-fi film Passengers, which turned out to be a box office bomb domestically and received negative reviews.

In an interview with the media, the Joy performer revealed that she felt like more of a celebrity than an actor and had lost control of her creativity and imagination. She told before clarifying that Passengers made her feel that way.

“I was like, ‘Oh no, you guys are here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided that this was a good movie?”

Lawrence also shared that the singer had warned her not to take on the role of Passengers.

“Adele told me not to do it. She was like, ‘I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.’ I should have listened to her. Everything was like a rebound effect. I was reacting, rather than just acting. I felt like more of a celebrity than an actor, cut off from my creativity, my imagination.”

In an interview with Variety, Lawrence opened up about the way she felt that every decision was a group decision and had made her lose her sense of control.
