The Sun reported Joe Alwyn and Swift to be dating in May 2017. At the time, a source even claimed that the couple had been dating secretly for a few months. In May 2018, they went Instagram public with the relationship as the two posted individual pictures of themselves standing next to a giant cactus (via Instagram). The couple preferred to keep their relationship as private as they could, save for their public appearances.

Besides being real-life partners, they even became work partners when Alwyn worked with the singer under the nickname William Bowery on the songs exile and betty on Swift’s album folklore. Bowery’s identity was revealed during the Disney+ concert documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions. After watching them being so in love for so long, fans were bound to be shocked when the news of the breakout came out.

According to an X post, the All Too Well singer’s most favorite Christmas movie is Love Actually. What has made this information surprising is that Alwyn auditioned for the role of Sam in the movie. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times Style, he said that it was his first audition.

It was for Love Actually and there were various rounds of meetings and auditions. I sort of didn’t really know what it was for or what anything was at that point I did read some scenes at one point with Hugh Grant and Richard Curtis.

At the time, the actor was 11 years old and had to get out of school for the day. However, he wanted to get back home in time because he did not want to miss the World Cup game. He did not get the role and later recognized Grant in a poster when he was on the way to school.

Alwyn and Swift were never the type of couple to publicize their personal life. They wanted to keep it private and emphasized it on numerous occasions. However, what the tabloids and media made of their relationship was not in their control and neither was what happened after the break-up.

Speaking to Britain’s The Sunday Times, the Kinds of Kindness actor opened up about the break-up.

I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate.

Alwyn also said that there was always going to be a difference between what the media believed that happened and what actually happened. He also claimed to be in a good place now.
