Christian Bale feels like he didn’t nail his Batman role
In an interview with Yahoo back in 2016, actor Christian Bale talked about his role as Bruce/Wayne Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. The actor felt like he could’ve done better as he said,
“I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy. (Director Christopher Nolan) did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.'”
The actor further explained that he wanted Batman’s “true, monstrous self” to emerge when he plays the character on-screen.
The actor was jealous of Ben Affleck’s Batman
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor made it clear that he felt sufficed with playing Batman in three movies, however, he felt jealous when he saw Ben Affleck playing Batman. He said,
“I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour. The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman…I think I should have gotten over it by now.”
Ben Affleck played Batman in Zack Snyder’s 2016 superhero film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the 2017 film Justice League (as well as its 2021 director’s cut), and a cameo appearance in Suicide Squad (2016).
Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy was a massive hit
Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy was a worldwide sensation. It was a box office success, grossing over $2.4 billion worldwide. The Dark Knight, in particular, became the highest-grossing film of 2008, earning over $1 billion worldwide. The franchise even revived the dying popularity of Batman at the time.
The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won two, including Best Supporting Actor for the late Heath Ledger’s iconic portrayal of the Joker. All the characters in the movie were iconic in their own ways. The movie managed to set a bar so high that even today filmmakers struggle to reach it.
