It might look like that Irish actor Cillian Murphy isn’t someone who wants to delve into lighthearted jokes and fun around him. One reason could be the roles he had played so far. However, Murphy himself shared that he requires fun and lightness around him while portraying serious characters.

During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he said “She’s also one of the funniest people, and I have a rule that I can’t work unless there’s a lightness around the set.” The Anna star said:

“There has to be some levity. A lot of the films I do are quite heavy and go to some dark, challenging places, and you have to be relaxed to do that. So I don’t walk around in a state of f—ing angst. I need to feel at ease. I can’t be in that dark place all the time. I don’t have the stamina for it.”

Emily Blunt played Oppenheimer’s wife Kitty in the historical epic, and their friendship helped the actor stay energetic and lighthearted while shooting. The two have previously worked together in the movie A Quite Place Part II, directed by the actress’s husband and acclaimed star John Krasinski.

The upcoming award season is undeniably going to feature Cillian Murphy for his outstanding performance in Nolan’s movie. Despite knowing his strong position among the actors, the Kensuke’s Kingdom star considers his performance as “tiny” and subtle. He told the outlet that:

“I knew it would have to be a quiet, small performance because the themes are f—ing huge. What’s happening inside his heart and his mind can’t be painted big, particularly when it’s captured on an Imax camera and it’s going to be shown on a f—ing 80-foot screen. I knew it would have to be delicate and tiny, most of it.”

The actor has worked intensely hard for the success of Oppenheimer, and as previously revealed by Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy only had one almond a day to lose weight for his role. The film includes a star-studded cast with notable performances and left a lasting impact on the film’s success. In the upcoming Golden Globes on January 7, Oppenheimer has earned a total of eight nominations, and around 13 for the Critics Choice Awards.
