Barbie movie made its way to release on the 21st of July. The movie has been getting great support from the fans right after its release, thanks to a unique plotline by the director, Greta Gerwig, and the lead male actor, Ryan Gosling who have a major contribution to the success of the movie. 

The cast and the director are now taking several interviews with various publications revealing the behind-the-scene happenings before the movie made its way to the theatres.

While discussing it, Gerwig revealed that while scripting for the movie, she already had Gosling in her mind to make him appear as the lead character, Ken for the movie.

Greta Gerwig who is responsible for the direction behind the Barbie movie is now being praised for the success of the movie. 

While talking about her experience in choosing the right cast for the movie, she shared that she was impressed by the performance set by Ryan Gosling in SNL (Saturday Night Live). That’s the point where she made up her mind that she would call Gosling to lead the movie as Ken. 

“You know those actors you can… just sort of feel that they know what’s funny, and I always felt that about him.”

“And then I’m a big fan of all of his SNLs, I always thought he was great on SNL… He did ‘Guy That Just Got a Boat’ on ‘Weekend Update,’ and it’s so good.”

Little Women director shared that she first saw Gosling when he appeared live in one of her favorite shows SNL where she was quite impressed by her performance.

“We actually, in writing it, cast Ryan, like we wrote his name into the script and everything… and [Gosling’s name] was everywhere.”

“And then when we handed them the script, the studio was like ‘Oh, it’s so wonderful that you know Ryan.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t know Ryan. I’ve never met Ryan, I have no idea”, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Lady Bird director shared that she imagined The Gray Man stars playing Ken while scripting her story.

Before the Blade Runner 2049 star was confirmed to play Ken, the casting director for the movie, Allison Jones shared that there were infact many other Hollywood actors who took down to portray Ken. 

The list casts includes Bowen Yang who has appeared in Saturday Night Live and Den Levy who played in Schitt’s Creek took down to take Ken’s role. 

Other famous actors like Ben Platt who has previously portrayed in Dear Evan Hansen was also expected to portray Ken. “They were, I’m not kidding, really bummed they couldn’t do it.”

All these stars couldn’t make it up to make a good fit for the role, says Jones.

Not only for the male actors, but few female actress also have turned down to portray as female, and finally Margot Robbie was the one chosen for it. 

Before Robbie came for the movie, Amy Schumer who is more famous for movies like Life & Beth and Expecting Army dropped out from the movie due to scheduling conflicts. 

Soon after Schumer left, Anne Hathaway took the crown to lead for the movie, but unfortunately, even she couldn’t continue to cast for the movie. That’s when Margot Robbie who is also producing the movie took the crown again to play the lead role. 

However, she wanted Gal Gadot, the Wonder Woman star to join her in the movie as another Barbie but unfortunately, she wasn’t available to take up roles. 

Not only Roobie but Gerwig gave efforts to bring stars for the movie where the director called her good friend, Saoirse Ronan who has previously appeared in Gerwig’s movies like Lady Bird and Little Women. However, Ronon couldn’t lead the movie.
