“I don’t think it’s that great”: Kate Middleton Fails to Impress Critics As She Faces Criticism For Her Coronation Dress
With Buckingham Palace releasing the official portraits of the coronation ceremony, the public got a proper glimpse of Kate Middleton’s highly anticipated coronation ensemble. Known for being the most stylish British royal, the Duchess of Cornwall appeared in her exquisite fashion. However, to a Royal fashion expert’s disappointment, Middleton’s gown is “quite plain”.
Although known to hoist the banner of fashion in the Royal Family, Kate Middleton’s coronation attire didn’t seem to be the best of her fashion, according to the expert. Stating which royal wore the best stand-out ensemble during the coronation, the Royal fashion expert undoubtedly expressed their opinions.
Kate Middleton’s Coronation Ceremony Ensemble
Deemed the most stylish British royal, people have been waiting to witness Kate Middleton’s ensemble for King Charles III‘s coronation ceremony. Although the images of the coronation have already been publicized by media outlets, Buckingham Palace released the authentic portraits only recently on May 8th.
Thus, flipping through the portraits, Kate Middleton was spotted in an ivory-colored embroidered dress by Alexander McQueen, as she arrived in Westminster Abbey on 6th May. By far it was the fanciest ensemble that the Duchess had to offer. However, she had it on for a brief period, as it got hidden under Middleton’s ceremonial robe.
Featuring a ceremonial robe in red, white, and blue, representing the colors of the Union Jack flag, Kate Middleton donned the outfit with pride. Further, the Duchess accessorized her attire with a Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen silver flower crown rather than a tiara. The 41-year-old also paid tribute to Princess Diana by wearing her pearl drop earrings. She even wore Queen Elizabeth II‘s George VI Festoon necklace from the 1950s.
Kate Middleton’s Gown Disappoints Royal Fashion Expert
Appearing in such exquisite fashion while beaming simplicity at its best, Kate Middleton hoped to impress her audience. Although commoners were indeed mesmerized, Royal fashion expert, Miranda Holder seemed underwhelmed by Middleton’s fashion choices. Going through the intricacies of Middleton’s gown, Holder stated, “You’ve got embroidery around a very pretty neckline, the cuffs, and at the bottom”.
Stating blatantly, “It’s cut beautifully, but I don’t think it’s that great” the fashion expert detailed her opinion. Surprised to face disappointment from the Duchess of Cornwall regarding fashion, Holder looked for the reason. “It’s by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, who, of course, designed Kate’s wedding gown, so I really was expecting great things”. Miranda Holder stated.
Looking for a reason behind such a plain outfit, Holder stated,
“The only thing I can think of is that they were keeping it deliberately pared back so as to not outshine the king and the queen”.
Criticizing Kate Middleton’s coronation outfit further, Miranda Holder claimed, the gown is “acting as a sartorial vehicle”. Being blatantly honest about the Duchess’ outfit, Holder moved on to Princess Beatrice’s outfit.
Praising the Princess for looking “radiant in a figure-hugging magenta dress” Holder stated, “I really loved this look”. Despite all odds and disappointment, Miranda Holder undeniably praised Kate Middleton for her beauty and confidence in carrying such a fashion. The Duchess’s coronation outfit was followed by a red McQueen pantsuit, which she wore to the coronation concert.
