“I don’t think that had anything to do with it”: Cristiano Ronaldo Refuses Inspiring Tom Brady to ‘Un-Retire’ That Broke His Marriage With Gisele Bündchen, Claims NFL Legend Made Up His Mind Before Meeting Him
Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen finalized their divorce last month after 13 years of marriage. Everyone had seen it coming as the two had separated weeks before filing for divorce, and the reason behind their split was cited as Tom Brady’s unretirement from football. The Brazilian supermodel was one of the highest-paid models in her heyday but she sacrificed her career when she decided to start a family with Tom Brady. It was Brady’s turn to prioritize his family over his career and he announced his retirement from the game, but the retirement only lasted 40 days. And the rife between the couple once so much in love reached a point where it became irreconcilable. There were rumors that Cristiano Ronaldo had a part to play in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ change of mind, but the Manchester United star player has revealed otherwise.
Did Tom Brady unretire due to the ‘Cristiano Effect’?
Tom Brady had announced his unretirement on March 13, and Cristiano Ronaldo had met the quarterback only a day before, on March 12. They were captured on the Old Trafford pitch in the UK, having a casual chat after Manchester United’s victory over Tottenham.
The viral clip showed Ronaldo asking the father of 3, “You’re finished [playing] right?” Although Brady’s response is inaudible, he does make an awkward facial expression, squinting and smiling without his eyes. Clearly, the question made him a little uncomfortable and also made him introspect.
When Brady announced his comeback to the sport, Ronaldo shared his joy via Instagram with a picture of the two clicked a day before. He captioned the post:
Quite naturally, people started to conjecture that their talk must be a pivotal reason for the 7-time Super Bowl winner announcing his return for a 23rd NFL season for Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Some even claimed that Ronaldo convinced Brady to take the step. The phenomenon was even dubbed the ‘Cristiano effect’ by Twitterati.
Cristiano Ronaldo clears the air
However, Ronaldo has finally cleared the air and claimed that these speculations hold no water. He recently did an interview with Piers Morgan which aired this Thursday. During the interview, the legendary player was asked about the controversial conversation and what the secret was behind those muffled words. Ronaldo addressed all the rumors and said once and for all,
“Psychology, see. I’m a good psychologist. I think he had taken the decision a few weeks before that. He’s a very smart guy who knows a lot about football [soccer], we had a nice conversation. I don’t think that had anything to do with it, though.”
Anyways it wouldn’t have made sense to make such a life-altering decision based on a single conversation. Brady claimed that he felt he still had some game left in him and that he wanted to keep playing. Now, after his split from his ex-wife, he has called football and family his only priorities for now.
