“I don’t want to complain”: Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt Found it Very Difficult While Reading the Script of ‘Oppenheimer’
Oppenheimer is causing trembles ahead of its blast on the big screen this weekend, with Christopher Nolan-directed movie bringing Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt among others together to document one man’s relentless pursuit of excellence and progress in the field of nuclear physics. That man, played by Murphy, is J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Although the story of The Father of the Atomic Bomb is a documentary it’d be naïve to not expect certain twists from a Nolan movie. After all, the brain behind Inception is known to leave his viewers puzzled.

Whether he manages to do that in this movie remains to be seen. Regardless, he might have already satisfied his appetite for puzzling individuals during the making of Oppenheimer.
How Christopher Nolan Left Robert Downey Jr. Confused
Cillian Murphy is leading the star cast of Oppenheimer, playing the role of the genius theoretical physicist. But he’s also supported by the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt.
The Iron Man brings Lewis Lichtenstein Strauss onto the big screen. Strauss was a US businessman and naval officer, who pushed the development of thermonuclear weapons after the Soviets’ test of their own atomic bomb in 1949. He can be considered the antagonist of the movie, as Oppenheimer showed opposition toward the development of the hydrogen bomb.
There’s little doubt over Downey Jr’s brilliance, as such fans will certainly enjoy his portrayal of Strauss. But the preparations for the same were very tricky for the 58-year-old actor.
During Entertainment Weekly’s Around the Table, Downey Jr. revealed how he was left hypnotized and feeling dizzy with Nolan’s script. The Tenet director apparently printed the script on red-colored paper.
Downey Jr. said: “I don’t want to complain, but it’s on red paper printed in black, which is kind of difficult, at best.”
“A bit unnerving, as well,” Emily Blunt stepped in with another remark.
He continued: “I guess there’s something about it that makes it that you forget it as soon as you read it. I don’t know what those colors are. It’s kind of like being hypnotized.”
Blunt plays the role of Kitty Oppenheimer, the wife of Robert Oppenheimer, in the movie.
Christopher Nolan Wrote the Script of Oppenheimer in First Person
Printing the script on red paper wasn’t the only Nolan move that surprised his actors. The Interstellar genius wrote the screenplay in an unusual manner, demanding the supporting cast to read the script in the first person.
Nolan said: “In the case of this film, I wrote the script in the first person. It’s the only time I’ve done that. It made it clear to anyone who read the script that we’re on this ride with Oppenheimer.”
Murphy, the lead star, admitted it took him a minute to understand his director’s vision and the huge responsibility he was putting on his shoulders. We certainly can’t wait to see how everything transforms at the box office from 21st July.
