According to Steve Carell, one evening Ryan Gosling left the set and headed to a surprise gig in Glendale, CA. “Just because,” Carell emphasized of Gosling’s nursing home concert. While Gosling didn’t boast about the experience, Carell decided to share the heartwarming tale.

“A movie star would have told that story on a talk show… but not Ryan, he did it just to make some old folks happy and I find that annoying as hell,” Carell joked.

This wasn’t the first time the Golden Globe winner wowed Carell. Flashback to when 17-year-old Gosling, and Carell, both had small parts in the same TV pilot.

“I just love Steve Carell, always wanted to work with Steve. We didn’t get to work together but he was so funny I would go to set just to watch him work,” Gosling later told Collider.

In 2011, Gosling and Carell’s on-screen collaboration in Crazy, Stupid, Love finally happened. For Gosling, it was a dream come true, but working with his hero proved challenging.

As Carell recalled, “One time the boom guy just threw down his mic and had a laughing attack in the corner in the middle of a take. It was the first time I worked with someone who was so good it was a problem. I became a huge fan.”

Gosling himself remembered, “I grabbed the opportunity without thinking twice when I was offered a role alongside Steve Carell. Admitting how he would have accepted any project that starred Carell, Gosling literally proved his craze for the veteran actor.”
