Ace filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is known for making movies with pop culture references, profanity, and what can be termed artistic violence. Tarantino is undoubtedly highly regarded for his 1994 Pulp Fiction, which is effectively a cult classic. In 2003, he directed Kill Bill: Volume 1, which was inspired by martial arts, followed by a sequel in 2004.

Kill Bill: Volume 1 starred Uma Thurman as a former assassin who seeks revenge on a group of assassins and their leader after they tried to kill her and her unborn child. The director paid homage to 1973’s Lady Snowblood with Kill Bill movies, which were split into two parts; Volume 1 and 2, to avoid having to cut any scenes. The movie was released twenty years ago to positive reviews and is now considered one of the best of all time. Will there be a third part to the successful series? Let’s find out.

Quentin Tarantino thought he would do three Kill Bill movies one every ten years

In an interview with Playlist back in 2021, Quentin Tarantino confessed that while he was making Kill Bill, he had thought that he would make one Kill Bill movie every ten years. The director explained the idea behind his thought,

“Uma Thurman will be ten years older with each new one. Also I’ll do an anime movie that follows this aspect of the Bride when she was with the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. And then I’ll do a while animation movie that will be the origin of Bill and his three Godfathers.”

The idea of having a Kill Bill movie every ten years seemed interesting but the director continued to explain why did he fail with the execution of it. He said,

“Ok, well, I f***king killed myself on Kill Bill, went around the world, I don’t want to think about that shit anymore.”

Quentin Tarantino announced that he is going to direct just ten movies before he decides to retire which means Kill Bill 3 might not happen. Later, he explained to Deadline his ten-movie plan;

“If I get to the 10th, do a good job and don’t screw it up, well that sounds like a good way to end the old career. If later on I come across a good movie, I won’t not do it just because I said I wouldn’t. But ten and done, leaving them wanting more, that sound right.”

Tarantino had shared with De Mogen that his last film is going to be about, a male film critic, and will take place in the 70s.

Uma Thurman watched three classic movies to prepare for Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill

According to a NY Times report back in 2004, Tarantino had Uma Thurman watch John Woo’s Killer, Jack Hill’s Coffy, and Toshiya Fujita’s Lady Snowblood to prepare for her role. Tarantino in a story also revealed that his decision to let Thurman drive the car on Kill Bill set is one of the biggest regrets of his life. He clarified in an interview with Deadline,

“I’m sure when it was brought up to me, that I rolled my eyes and was irritated. But I’m sure I wasn’t in rage and I wasn’t livid. I told her it would be safe and it wasn’t. I was wrong. I didn’t force her into the car. She got into it because she trusted me and believed me.”

The statement came after Uma Thurman in her NY Times opinion revealed that Tarantino asked her to drive for a scene in a movie, and she ended up crashing into a palm tree. Thurman added that she accused him of trying to kill her at the time, as the director responded by claiming that he was angry that he did not, in fact, try to kill her.

Tarantino explained to Deadline that he found the crash footage only years later and that he was happy because the actress was finally going to see it.
