Thunderbolts‘ star Sebastian Stan talks about being impressed by Anne Hathaway
Romanian-American actor Sebastian Stan, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie A Different Man, spoke to his trainer Don Saladino for his July’s Challenger Group. During the Zoom interview, Stan shared,
Anne Hathaway is incredible. I read recently in the profile that she did for the New York Times for her movie, which I saw by the way; ‘The Idea of You’. You love a good rom-com. That movie was great, and she’s incredible. And the way that she was so honest and so forward in that article, I gained even more respect for her.
Back in April, Anne Hathaway appeared for an interview with the New York Times ahead of the release of her movie The Idea of You, in which she starred opposite Nicholas Galitzine. The romantic comedy was based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, which follows a love affair between a 40-year-old single mother and the lead singer of a popular boy band.
During the interview, the actress was asked, why she decided on playing Solène, to which Hathaway said that she finds it natural to express her thoughts and feelings through characters and stories. She added a part of her just asked her to watch the movie, which is why she wanted to make it. She explained further,
This is a movie about a woman healing her heart after a massive trauma, and it says that a bloom can happen in a person’s life at any stage. I found myself almost possessed with the need to explore what those two things meant and looked like.
Upon release, The Idea of You received positive comments from the critics as well as the audience. The movie holds a critic score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the lead pair was highly appreciated for their chemistry on-screen.
So it is not surprising to know that not only the movie impressed Stan, but the way the actress had put out her thoughts about the movie in her profile interview also impressed him.
Sebastian Stan talks about people’s reactions to A Different Man’s prosthetics
The Marvel actor is now gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated black-comedy psychological thriller movie A Different Man. In the movie, Stan plays a man with neurofibromatosis who undergoes surgery to change his appearance. Despite being praised for his new look, he is fixated on another man who plays him on stage.
Adam Pearson, a real-life actor who has neurofibromatosis, plays Oswald in the movie, who portrays Stan’s character Edward’s life on-stage. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where Pearson discussed coming to a common ground with the actor to achieve a similar look. He said,
This was the hook that we gave to Sebastian. You don’t know what it’s like to have a disfigurement, but you do know what it’s like to not have privacy and to have your life constantly invaded. You become public property.
Sebastian Stan, at the Q&A session (via Variety), shared how he decided to wear his prosthetics and walk in the streets of New York City to see how people would react. He added that it was sort of scary to see how limited the interaction was between two extremes; don’t address it or overcompensate.
The actor noted that the only honest interaction was with the kids and recalled one such incident was when a girl was just trying to do the right thing, but her mother was preventing her from having that experience. The actor mentioned that they just wanted to know without having any judgment, which turned out to be a learning lesson for him.
A Different Man is scheduled for release on September 20, 2024.
The Idea of You is available to stream on Prime Video.
