“Trailer looked promising until the gameplay started”: Kong: Survivor Instinct is Disappointing For Monsterverse Fans
- Kong: Survivor Instinct's gameplay has received mixed reviews despite an exciting trailer.
- The game, set after 'Godzilla vs. Kong,' blends platforming, combat, and exploration.
- However, future Monsterverse games may improve based on player feedback.
After Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Kong’s back—this time in a video game instead of a movie! Developer 7Levels has announced Kong: Survivor Instinct for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
When the first trailer for Kong: Survivor Instinct came out, Monsterverse fans were pumped. They hoped that the blend of big action with Kong’s mighty presence would be a surefire hit.

But many fans were disappointed by the gameplay (even though the trailer looked great). It didn’t live up to the exciting preview, and with the letdown from fans, it looks like the game might not be as amazing as hoped.
Kong: Survivor Instinct’s Gameplay Didn’t Meet Fans’ Monsterverse Expectations
Kong: Survivor Instinct is a 2.5D game combining realistic platforming, tough combat, and Metroidvania-style exploration. It’s Legendary Entertainment’s first game set in the Monsterverse, with more monster games on the way.
This action-adventure game, made in collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, is set to release later this year, though the exact date isn’t known yet. The first trailer is out and shows some gameplay. It takes place shortly after the 2021 movie Godzilla vs. Kong and features a city under attack by Titans, where the player’s daughter is trapped.

The gameplay footage for Kong: Survivor Instinct has had a mixed reception. While the trailer showcased Kong’s massive size and some cool environments, not everyone is convinced the game will be as exciting as it first appeared. Check out some fan reactions:
Trailer looked promising until the gameplay started. No idea why we can’t get a proper AAA Kaiju game.

Everyone’s hoping this character finally gets a game that’s worth playing. However, even though the game has had a tepid reception so far, there’s still hope it could turn things around once it’s fully released.
Kong: Survivor Instinct‘s Missed Promises and What Could Be Next

Even though Kong: Survivor Instinct didn’t quite hit the jackpot, there’s still hope for Monsterverse games in the future. This game might not be a winner, but it’s the first step in a new adventure for Monsterverse video games.
The team-up between 7Levels and Legendary Entertainment might lead to some better and more fun games down the road. The first try usually sets the stage for getting better. If the developers listen to what players say, future Monsterverse games could end up being more refined and engaging experiences for gamers.
Kong: Survivor Instinct will be released this Fall.
