“I have never broken a contract”: Eva Green Wins $1 Million Lawsuit Over ‘A Patriot’ That Nearly Ended Her Career

Sometimes certain legal issues not only cost your public image but also your career too. The French actor Eva Green has been a victim of the mentioned scenario. The Casino Royale actor made headlines when she was dragged into the courtroom drama for demanding something that was rightfully hers from the production house White Lantern Limited.

The BAFTA Award-winning actor Eva Green was a part of the movie A Patriot produced by the White Lantern. Unfortunately, the movie could never see the gates of the theatre because the production house failed to get finances. The movie could not be completed and was scrapped by its makers in 2019. The actor claimed that despite the entire project did not come to fruition, she still owed a $1 million contract fee.

Eva Green Wins Million Dollar Lawsuit Over The Movie A Patriot

The lawsuit had a simple one-way take when Eva Green filed it against the production house in 2019. Things took a different turn when White Lantern Limited and the finance company Sherborne Media Finance went on to counter-sue the Dark Shadows actor. According to the lawsuit filed by the production house and the finance company, actor Eva Green purposely subverted the production of the unreleased movie so that she could buy the script and produce it by herself.

After four years the Kingdom Of Heaven actor won the lawsuit against the White Lantern production house, which used unlawful measures against the actor in a bad light. After the verdict, which was announced in the actor’s favor. Eva Green expressed her gratitude. She said-

“The Judge has found that I was never in breach of my contractual obligations. The judgment is clear. I am grateful to the Court, to the Judge, to my legal team, and to my valiant agent who is my strength and my shield,”

In talking about her reputation in Hollywood and in the French world of cinema, the actor went on to say-

“In the 20 years that I have been making films, I have never broken a contract or even missed one day of shooting,”

Eva Green was misquoted by multiple media outlets and went on to fight every tooth and nail to defend the beautiful movie she had signed on for. The unreleased movie A Patriot was based on climate change. While talking about the alleged charges against her, the actor went on to say-

“I was forced to stand up to a small group of men, funded by deep financial resources, who tried to use me as a scapegoat to cover up their own mistakes.”

The actor’s personal and professional life was unnecessarily brought into the media and became a talking point amidst the legal crisis. On addressing how the lawsuit affected her personal life, Eva Green confessed to the media outlet Variety. She said-

“I wish I could say that this ordeal has made me stronger, better, wiser. But to have my personal life dragged through the press and the court was more painful and damaging than I can say. Which is why I want to thank those kind people who, when I was being vilified by the press, supported me, on social media and on other platforms.”

The actor was proud of herself that despite all the ups and downs she stood by her decision like a rock.

Eva Green Was Humiliated In The Court Hearing

The Golden Compass actor was not only humiliated professionally but personally too. During the courtroom trial Eva Green was asked by one of the lawyers whether she was in a habit of lying in messages, to which the actor replied straight away-

“I have a very direct way of saying things,” she confessed during her interview with Variety. 

Eva Green’s personal WhatsApp messages were read aloud during the trial. The actor went on to add-

“I was not expecting to have my WhatsApp messages exposed in court. It’s very humiliating,”

According to the U.K.’s The Times, the WhatsApp text messages revealed how irritated the actor had been on the sets of the movie A Patriot. The text messages revealed-

She had used words like “evil” and “morons”, with respect to the producers and even referred to crew members as “s**tty peasants,” and even called the production house “f**king nightmare.”

Eva Green desperately wished that A Patriot could be released but due to the issues surrounding the finance company and the production house, things could never come to fruition.
