Keke Palmer On The Metoo Movement In Music Industry
Keke Palmer’s new album Big Boss was released on her own streaming network Key TV on May 12, 2023. The visual album talks about the various problems and stigmas in the music industry that hardly anyone talks about. From business setbacks to unreported incidents of sexual harassment- Keke Palmer has tried her best to throw light on these factors that plague the music industry around the world. Majorly, the visual album chronicles the ups and downs she has faced in her life ever since she was a child artist. Keke Palmer’s mother and her long-time manager would be portraying herself in the album and actors Kyle Massey, and Skai Jackson are also associated with the Big Boss album.
During an exclusive interview with the media outlet People, the actor was present for the promotion of her visual album Big Boss. She was asked about why the Me Too movement did not have any impact on the music world. Keke Plamer had replied-
“Exactly. I think that’s the point. It hasn’t happened in music, and it should. Bad s— happens in all industries, obviously, but specifically entertainment. We know bad things happen in all of them, but it’s almost like the acting world represents a union and the music industry represents a non-union. It’s happening in the actor world, but eventually, it’s going to come to a damn halt. Somebody’s going to get called out. Something’s going to happen. At some point, we’re going to come to some kind of understanding. With music, it’s like everybody is being paid, and everybody’s a crooked cop. So, it seems like nothing will ever really come to a head.”
After spending two decades in the entertainment and music world, Keke Palmer also spoke about her real experiences with respect to the highs and lows in her career. On being asked about the takeaways from her album Big Boss the actor-turned-musician mentioned that one does not need a team to start off with anything in their life, everybody’s voice counts and one should always make the most of it.
