“I hope you didn’t fly private over there”: Marvel Star Mark Ruffalo Can’t Travel The World? Fans Slam Hulk Star For Traveling To Italy After Being An Environmental Activist
Mark Ruffalo gained worldwide recognition with his debut as Dr. Bruce Banner aka Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2012. He is one of the very few artists who have got all four EGOT nominations. In addition to acting, he has also directed a number of plays during his time at the Orpheus Theatre and made his film directorial debut in 2010 with the movie Sympathy for Delicious.
Ruffalo is also an environmentalist and has spoken up about several environmental issues from time to time. He was the first famous person to talk about anti-fracking. He narrated and produced a documentary about President Barack Obama’s concerns regarding oil and natural gas drilling. However, recently Ruffalo has been under the radar as fans suspect that his recent visit to Italy involves a private airplane.
Mark Ruffalo is Suspected to Have Used a Private Plane
Despite being an active environmentalist, Mark Ruffalo has been bashed about owning a private jet in the past. On September 2, the 13 Going 30 actor posted pictures of his visit to Italy on his official Twitter account. His wife Sunrise Coigney was seen with him in one of the pictures. This sparked concerns about him using a private plane that is known to burn 40 times as much carbon per passenger as regular commercial flights. A fan on X wrote: “I hope you didn’t fly private over there.” Others also expressed their concerns.

Mark Ruffalo has not commented on this yet. In 2016, National Review labeled him a “hypocrite” for using his private plane to fly from New York to London to attend a British movie awards event after trying to educate people about anti-fracking. There are many such incidents of celebrities defying the ‘practice what you preach’ culture.

Celebrities have Been Publicly Criticized for the Use of Private Jets
Mark Ruffalo is not the only celebrity who has preached about environmental issues and then, proceeded to fly around the world on a carbon-spewing private jet. In 2021, a coalition of famous Hollywood celebrities wrote a letter to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris requesting them to shut down the Dakota Access Pipeline.
What’s surprising here is that a lot of the celebrities who had signed this letter including Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo constantly use private jets while saying that they are fighting climate change. Jane Fonda, Scarlett Johansson, and Cher are also some of the celebrities who signed the aforementioned letter but have used private planes in the past.
In 2014, Leonardo DiCaprio who claims to be a great environmentalist alone could have reduced the carbon emissions by 44 tons by using commercial flights for his 20 or so trips across the US and around the world. These statistics suggest that celebrities should be advocating for climate change when they are sure they are causing it.
